You will not get fury x performance out of a single 480.

 

He's assuming if he can overclock it - why do you always have to ruin **** with being so negative, you know how it'll perform just as much as we do, let people be optimistic, the way you present your opinions is always as if it's concrete truth.

What we do know is that we should expect at stock, performance equivalent to 390/390x or 970/980.

I'm not expecting samples to be able to clock as high as 1600mhz I think it's wishful thinking, doesn't stop people hoping though.

It's best to not overhype things. It will not do any good. If it beats realistic expectations then it's much better surprise than failing to meet ridiculously over hyped expectations.

 

Yeah I agree, I'm more interested in it's stock performance than it's potential performance because at least you can be guaranteed at what it can do. Problem is, no matter which side of camp you're in, people will always reply, "oh but this card can perform better if it's overclocked" which often defeats the point.

Sometimes it does happen that one camp has good OC-er, and the other has so-so, but this happens rarely.

Give me stock performance, and I'll know damn well where an OC might bring me if I get a lucky card.
Overclock is a nice addition, and it gives you some nice choices, but it's luck based. Take it to extreme and you will be paying it dearly noise/power/durability and quality of life wise.
Hell chances are that you are paying it already, because you bought some super duper model "designed for OC".

That's why I like stock&reference. It's nice, tested and predictable. No weird surprises, locked voltages and other cheap tricks

 

If you know what your doing overclocking is a must. Its not a rocket science. I've seen a stock cards thats unstable and artifacting out of the box.

This 280X Vapor-X card im running is heavily overclocked, rocking 1.3v for last two years. Hell, i wonder how isnt dead already.

What a retarded conclusion image quality is surely worse on the CF 480 then the gtx1080.

AMD was very hyped up, but loosing the battle.

Hope this is not the true case, was hoping to buy and amd 470 next month.

 

Yeah, the 1080 clearly using a better, more demanding method of AO. That much I can see even on my phone screen looking at those thumbnails.

Their card can't do 1400 MHz. Doesn't tell how much they can overclock though. Like I said before I think 1,4 GHz is probably the best case scenario for reference cards at least. That being said GCN has never been high frequency architecture so even the custom cards may not overclock like mad. We'll see once those are out. If this is caused by power limit then custom cards can fix that.

I assume that's balls to the walls overclock attempt... that fan speed. It looks like they upped the voltage too? At that clock speed it's 90 points (GPU score) faster than GTX 970 at 1500 MHz.

Not too bad I guess but that reference cooler definitely is not an overclockers dream.

 

yeah look at the max temps as well...all solid now... mid 70ies
i remember just a very very short while ago certain people were jumping on the picture with the temps above 80°C ... without taking fanspeeds into account... saying that the card will run hot as hell because of the cheap ugly cooler...

the gpu score is around 300 points faster than stock 980... but oc 980 is ~7000+x gpu score... so that wont be beat.

edit: max power draw would be nice to know from this pic now...

 

If you run it at 4000 RPM it will and should definitely stay below 80c. :nerd:

I would call it fake. RX470 cant be at R9 290 range, not with those specs.
