It's a Blizzard game, they tend to prefer Nvidia.

Yep, but it's under the 290X that's the point XD
Sure it's not a true bench and it depends on the map. I think it will stay at that power point, but that's far away from Nano and 980

I already reported this: According to my own comparison run that youtube 480 is at 290X level in Overwatch, Nepal map.

Add another 10% due to whatever(driver, BIOS, lalala...), and its at 390X level which is 980 level, and a spit away from Nano/Fury.

Crossfire results. Seems to run quite hot in crossfire.

    look at the fanspeed graph.

Look at power draw/GPU load, then look at temperature.

not needed. fanspeed during 100% load phase never exceeds 50%.

thats why i said, look at the graph. but you are just trying harder and harder... its funny.

I am saying that the temperature went superfast to 87/82C. During maybe 20-30sec window

Reference cooling 44-49% fan speed, no wonder its 80c+. Nvidia FE cards are also hiting that temperature.

yes and i told the reason. the low fan speed.

go into your crimson or afterburner or trixx. set max fanspeed at 50%.
    start playing a demanding game.
you will see temps will reach high numbers in no time.

Those are not the fan speeds the cards ran under load. Those were the current temps, after the bench finished. Looks like the first gpu went over 60%, the other around 50% under load. Hard to read from that tiny screenshot though.

980ti is what it is, Maxwell tops out. 480's will improve with time. We all know how AMD cards life span is longer.

Also, 480's will have more Vram than 980ti. Real debate would be 480's or 1070. It all depends what users wants.

performance wise in just this moment they may be equal.
but i don't consider it future proof to go for 980Ti
with async shaders and async compute being the main cart horse of dx12 and vulkan. we all know how 980Ti handles that.

i understand your vending skills for nvidia are high so you try to pass on the last remaining of the end-of-range cards to the customers.

    what i think about it...

people who want to save money may extend their actual single cards with the same model for SLI/CFX, i.e. 280X -> 280X CFX, 970 -> 970 SLI

people who want to get rid of money may rather choose a 1080 or 1070 over the 980Ti because those are quite future proof in terms of tech features.

people who are building a solid midrange performance pc will rather go for single 480 and leave the option open to extend to CFX.

Just saying, a sub 1400mhz 980ti can do those numbers, clock one to 1500 and it's bye bye.

Also saying it's better to buy a single 980ti rather than CFX 480, at least you have all of that performance 100% of the time. You can't argue with any of that, surely?

The 480 seems like a gtx 970 rival, nothing more. It better overclock like hell because we all know how well the 970 overclock.

99% percent of games don't care about Async or Vulkan, it's a moot point. In a couple of years, maybe. By then most will have moved on from their current gpus.

    No it won't.

    power hungry R9 290 @stock (220-250W)
    high quality cooler (ACIV)
    ambient temp 29C
fan curve set at 50% max
60 sec time window of 100% GPU usage
    maximum temp 65C

    vs:

    power efficient RX 480 (100-150W)
20 sec time window of 100% GPU usage
    max temp 82C

    You're not hearing me.
Temps go up superfast in RX 480 because of the dinky cooler with super-small heatsink having super-small heat capacity:

i dont know if you know how to use gpuz.exe

1.) those are not the current temps ... as you can see there is a "MAX" flag next to the temp and the clock. that means those are the maximum values of the graph time.

2.) the fan speed (%) graph does never go over 50% the whole graph time while the GPU Load is at 100% for the last scene.

huh??? did you even enable crossfire?

if i run solo card ... i also get 65°C max under full load no matter how long i play.
if i enable crossfire i get 75°C (with 80-90% fanspeed though) on both cards

Considering multi GPU is pretty much disabled in nearly all DX12 games, it would be a waste of money to buy 2x RX480 for DX12.
One RX480 would be easily beaten by a 980ti in even the most AMD biased piece of software.

We know what devs are like would you trust a purchase on them supporting DX12 or Vulkan with AOTS level of support.
