Maxwells are better overclockers than Pascal.
And the few benchmarks iv'e seen between those two cards, is that when both are overclocked, the 980Ti beats the 1070.

Wich is why i'm sticking to buying a 980 Ti.

I've been fed up last couple weeks of wich card to get and wich brand.

I was actually going crazy, and finally i'm buying the right card.

I think you made a good choice, look here what a factory OC 1430mhz MSI does vs 1070GTX

lots of latest games tested, 2-3 times it beat 1080 too where higher ROP and bus width counts

I would be seriously thinking it if it were GTX 1070 vs 980Ti.

Performance is about the same with some wins and loses here and there for each.

We don't know if the GTX 1070 will get faster(most probably) over time(drivers).

Priced the same I would go GTX 1070 unless the 980Ti is a LOT cheaper which kinda makes it a better deal.

Congrats Tj! Beers on you! :D

I would say the 1070 is the smarter choice, but because there is not MUCH in it, in either price, or performance, I would say people who are buying 980 Ti's due to availability should most definitely not feel bad.

    I did it myself tbh.

    Ok So...

I cleaned my PC case out the other day, (dusty) which has further improved temps.

    HOWEVER,

since roughly then, so far only after longer sessions of the division, I'm getting green pixels which eventually develop into green flickering like crazy.

Not sure why after all thsi time of being stable, but my first thought is the overclock?

First thing to do here is drop your oc altogether.

    take it from there.

    Already done :)

Currently testing without the OC as I type...

Green pixels? Are they concentrated or just dots all over the screen? Sounds like memory instability. Drop your memory clock to stock, if it persists then try checking the memory ICs have contact with the waterblock

Begins with dots over the screen.

Develops into just green bars flickering across the screen.

But, you could be onto the issue.

Being a hybrid, the memory relies on the "stock fan" to cool memory, which, I don't believe was ever moving off 20% speed for some reason.

Making a custom fan curve and going to test this tomorrow...

Most people nowadays never see what GPU core artifacting looks like because there's all kinds of **** that throttles you down before you get there. Even if you do get instabiity and TDR, the driver recovers nowadays, yeah if you're using a hybrid then my money is on the memory ICs not being cooled adequately.

Considering it's EVGA I'd contact them directly, explain the issue you're having and tell them you suspect the memory, see what they tell you. Nvm, it isn't evga, brainfart.

lol I've seen green dots/or small stripes if I pushed vram too high or red if gpu core too high

I used Firestrike 2nd benchmark as quick test :eek:c:

    EDIT:

But this still doesn't give me rest, I benchmarked new Dirt Rally at 1465mhz 1.212V and somewhere in between it dropped to 1453mhz 1.187v (temp limit over 64C) and ran stable, I used advanced bleeding and dsr too.

If I manually try that it will tdr for sure.. :infinity:

Could anyone here help me make a profile for custom 3rdparty MSI cfg file? :O
-I exported those sensors once, but it looks to advanced for me, even this i2c dump - not sure if its 100% correct way..

Im really suspecting this generic OC reading as main cause, its also reading wrong power limit, only gpuz reads it properly.

My card has been shipped, so hyped for tomorrow. :D

My first high end videocard sinds 780 first came out.

    So for three years? :D

I guess Unwinder will add it to the database once the models come around and people post their dumps, it's really cool that this actually works.
Only thing I haven't found out, if a ASUS card works better with that GPUtweak thing, or with the 3rd party hardware database

    Well, i've had a 970, R9 390 after that but they aren't exactly "high-end" imo. :nerd:

You had a 780, right? That was a high end at the time.

Btw, gratz on a new purchase. I've tried to tell you go with 1070 instead but hey, its all good. :)

I know, but seeing some benchmarks with 980 Ti pulling ahead i couldn't help it.

I can always change it later on, money won't be an issue anymore at the end of the year.

We'll see how the 1070 perform in newer games when the drivers start to get more mature.

Can't quiet make out what you're saying, but 980 Ti does support Vulkan.

It only has effect when the app/game supports it.

Nice dude! our post guy never comes in the morning but in the afternoon. :bang:

My case is big enough, i always remove the HDD cages infront of the case to get more space for the front fan.

80 ASIC is pretty amazing! i'll let you know what mine is when i get it.

I want at least 1450mhz on the core to be able to beat the 1070, else i feel like i wasted the money.
Could always return it later when it doesn't perform similar or better then GTX 1070.

A couple of my friends already bought a GTX 1070, i want to beat their performance to be satisfied. :D
