And to spice up that rumor, they might not release a GTX 1070M and GTX 1080M in the process. The manufacturer would use the GPUs of the desktop versions of the GTX 1070 and 1080, as it previously di...

At computex ASUS showed a 18" 4K, mechanical keyboard, liquid cooling with 660W of power... using 980 SLI.

Something is definitely up with the 1080M/1070M MIA.

They belong in a laptop with that volt lock...

Sounds like a good idea to me because of how successful the 980 was in laptops.

I've been wanting to get a laptop to compliment my PC for when I'm at lunch at work. I usually finish my food in like 15-20 so that gives me 40 minutes to game. Looking forward to getting a laptop with a 1070 in it.

Maybe this is what asus was teasing with there game changer laptop.
Or maybe we are going to see slimmer lighter external GPU solutions before the end of the year...
Who knows...maybe the docking station trend is coming bak to laptops :-B

Sounds good. I like the idea of a full 1080 in my laptop.

Is the volt lock even an issue? There are people hitting 2Ghz at 1.06v. The whole 1.2v lock sounded like it was only going to be an issue for people using LN2.

Old 100watts MXM3.0b is dead; confirmed.

    Long live 200watts MXM3.0b.

Sorry, was refering to that thing when you oc it to a certain point and after that point the OC doesn't seem to affect performance anymore. Like after 2.1ghz, forgot where i read that.

On topic though the fact that they can put the chips in laptops is amazing. But i don't know how they'll cool them considering with the ref cooler it reaches temps as high as 80+. Probably will be downclocked a lot to cope with the heat emanation.

There's only the Clevo notebooks that support that GPU.

Long live MXM 3.0b with extra power connector for 130 watts.

IMO they will just lover the voltages and core/memory clocks on a Laptop GTX1080, maybe around 1.4-1.5 GHz base core clock and around 1.6 GHz with the turbo boost on , GTX1070/1080 will double up the performance comparing to Laptop 980/980M. Having a GTX 980M myself I get 9400+ 3DMark points in Firestrake, GTX1080 should bring 18000+ 3DMark Firestrike points in Laptops and that is great for FHD and QHD gaming, but not enough for UHD gaming.

You could easily do it if all the GPUs are cherry picked for coolness and low wattage and then on top of that just reduce clocks and power.

The question is will they be able to use 8gb of GDDR5X in a laptop along with a 1080 gpu because it might not be worth it if you need to down clock it first.

I think a 1080 in a laptop could easily do 4k @ around 20" without an issue while pushing decent frames.

Dude, do you know how much Nvidia sells laptop gfx cards for? You think £619 is expensive for GTX1080? They could easily charge £1000+ for laptop version and no-one would blink an eye-lid.

As for 8GB. GTX980m comes with 8GB ram already, I highly doubt they'll cut that down. I'm certain GTX1080 laptop-version will match desktop card in memory-size. If anything, it's not uncommon for laptop gfx cards to have more memory than desktop version. (don't think that'll happen this time though).
