But i want to know how much juice the card needs, not how much the PSU can provide. That is written on the side of the PSU, and if you dont buy the cheapest one, it is usually even true.

To play at 1080p there is no problem. At 2.5k maybe a problem...
This CPU is a great overclocker. Pust it to 4.5 - 4.6 with a proper cooler

Not if you overclock that k version cpu you will be ok , thats why you bought a k version after all wasn't it :) now go and overclock it and get your money worth :) :)

I second this, had my 3770K at 4.8GHz @ 1.32v for over 2 years, huuuuge performance bump. It's a super shame to keep it at stock, and it will definitely NOT bottleneck the cards.

The opposite actually. The lower the res, the more work load for the CPU. At higher res, the load shifts to the GPU.

    Really?! Thanks to the update!

I saw too that it dependes on each game. Some uses more demand of CPU in general than others... but a 3770 really will not be a problem at all.

cpu workload of 3d games is a combination of processing game logic / calculations (not affected by any graphical changes like resolution or other parameters) and drawcalls (not affected by resolution itself!).
-> if you cap your fps at a point that is always in the "delivery zone" and raise or lower the resolution there is no impact on the cpu (given you can max the capped fps at all those resolutions)
if a graphical option changes the amount of objects to be rendered on the screen (mesh increase ..etc.) then drawcalls are increased and cpu load will raise even for same fps.

=> resolution increase in a static fps environment dont shift a load, they are just more taxing to the GPU which may result in the GPU reaching 100% utilization and a resulting fps decrease -> followed by CPU utilization decrease because less fps means less drawcalls.

Point is that his 3770k will present less of a bottleneck at higher res than lower for a gtx 1080/1070.

The CPU has more work to do pushing more frames because of the CPU overhead.

Well, 8 pin is max 150 watts, at 12v. Using maths, you get

    150(w)/12(v)= 12.5 amps

That doesn't take into account the ~75 watts supplied by the pci-e slot (8.5 amps, 5.5 on the 12v rail and 3 on the 3.3v rail.)

People think amperage is like, another thing than volts and watts, or watts is another thing than volts and amps, etc.

    It's not.

    w/v=a
    w/a=v
    a*v=w

    Amperage is exactly watts/volts.

People think that amps are somehow not a direct result of volts and watts.

That somehow you can have more or less amperage with the same watts and volts.

So one 1080 or two 1070's?

One 1070 mate. Honestly, looking at how games keep getting launched with no Sli support, going multi gpu seems to be a waste. For games, anyway.

if you buy right away. then i'd go one 1080 or one 1070 and go SLI after prices dropped further depending on what other new single cards are out by then.
1070 SLI will leave you no room for a cheap upgrade in 1 year or so.

Well that solves it, time to replace the 970. Will wait a bit for some price adjustments though :)

I will wait to see prices first. May just do one 1080 as the 1070 looks like it has a VRAM bandwidth bottleneck that the 1080 doesn't.

1080 smoke screen working so well lol, if nvidia were to simultaneously launch the real deal (1080ti) everybody could see how mediocre of a deal this mutilated card is compared to stuff like the ti4200, fx5700, 6600gt, 8800gt, 7900gt, gtx260, gtx460, gtx560ti, or gtx660.

You can blame AMD for this. If I ran Nvidia I would do the same thing they are doing now.
