It is not disappointment to me for being nVidia card. But considering How long there is Fury X and GTX 980 Ti and expected improvements in architecture which should have improve performance per clock + new manufacturing process...

I simply think that price is too high for step-up it gives once time is put into equation.
    620 GBP/790 Euro.

There are sites like Arsetechnica stating: "Nvidia GTX 1080 review: Faster, cheaper, quieter than Titan X".

If GTX 1080 is replacement for GTX 980, then it should have appropriate price regardless of performance. But GTX 980 came at 430 GBP.

What is this move to bump price range for? I have seen statistics on how many cards are sold in each price range. There is no reason to price it that high unless there are very few made.
Or plan to actually decrease price soon enough.

Anyway, I want to know how Polaris will affect performance per $. Because 1080 is not that attractive.

And I do not like some of those techniques nVidia introduced. Even that Viewport correction for multiple screens. Because that actually increases horizontal field of view.

    Nice review Hilbert!

Card is a beast! END OF!

It destroys the 980! 1440p just got owned! Power consumption looks awesome too. Two of these for 4K would be fantastic!

Not going to mention overclocking as it doesn't look quite ready, so hopefully we'll see more soon, but seeing 2GHz in HH reviews still good!

    Haters always going to hate

Cowie when you getting one and putting it under dice!!!

almost two years ago got 970 for 335 dollars the 1080 is double the frames and double the cost so when it comes to frames per dollar there is no progress this should be a 499 card like all previous XX80
guess that what the absence of competition gets us

I love how you just inflated price from 699 to 790

    Smooth.

1080 will sell for 599 soon enough

This card looks amazing so imagine a 1080 ti. It will destroy my 980 ti. I will wait for AMD to release there next big cards or maybe even 1080 ti before I upgrade.

hmmm... I'm not so sure as isn't 599 an MSRP? And now the reference card is so damned expensive I can see that being used as an excuse to push up the price of the aftermarket cards.

    Thanks for the review.Fast card.
Overclocks and temps are where I thought this 1080 card would be.

Canadian prices on pre-orders all in are around 1000-1100 so its a little more than 980TI cards and a lot less than Titan X cards.

So better performance than TitanX card which I paid average around 1570 so I will be getting this card to play with for awhile.Until AMD drops new cards.

It's just the reference card that is expensive so as not to undercut AIB

I expect you'll find 1080 selling for less than founders edition pretty soon

it's the same as 980 launch, prices inflated artificially because of demand, this time price increase in controlled by "FE"

Thank you Hilbert Hagedoorn for the long awaited review finally, could not agree more with conclusion, anyone with a 970/980/980 Ti or a TITAN X specially with a good factory OC 20 to 30% and a good cooler should really wait, any one with an older gen GPU it's a worth update "if you are up for the over priced reference i mean founders edition" :nerd:.
other than that wait for something better the AIB or the big brothers TI/X.
sadly we did not see a VR test or a comperson.. the only test that comes to my mind with marks is steam VR test.
one more thing was the driver ver in system info panel 368.13 while the latest driver to download and all of us are using is the 365.19.
probably something forced on Hilbert by nvidia...any ways would be nice is someone clarify.
and the "The new overclocking features that Nvidia introduced are a bit of a mess. They require a specific driver and the tools available crash more than they work"...what OC features? what tools..would be nice to know.. just saying.
again thank you Hilbert for the effort for the review and for your honest opinion at the end.

Well i think that it´s fair to say that the 1080 is a "little beast", to get that type of performance from their medium chip is very good, 70% faster than the older 980. Finally we are moving away from the 28nm proccess!
And to think it doubles the performance of my 970...

    But that price! Ouch!...

My only question is about the DX12 performance, did Nvidia really fixed the asynchronous compute problem or the problem still existes and it´s being "masked" by the great performance of the card???

    Great review as always!

Some ppl managed to oc the FE to 2160mhz stable, on air, i asume with a custom solution you might reach 2300mhz.

That's it. It costs around 50% more than GTX 980 did at its launch.
Apples to apples, oranges to oranges. USA has prices without Tax (depending on place). And USA prices should be compared to USA prices.

I did compare our European price tags which include tax versus Our European price tags again with tax included.

I do not think there would be anyone comparing USA no tax vs EU tax price. That would be ugly and kind of stupid :)

You think AIB partners will base theirs off the $599 and not the $699 price tag? I would not be surprised at all for the AIB to be $750+. Wouldn't be shocked for the MSI Lightning/Gigabyte Xtreme etc to be $800+
