Hopefully they will release a GTX 1060 later down the road.

it was just a very light workload

compare overclocking on reference 980ti to overclocking on custom ones.

The difference isn't that great in %, it's mainly a question of power delivery and cooling.

Honestly unless you're willing to pay a huge premium for extra performance, 980Ti owners don't have a major reason to buy this one

So, two 1070s in SLi now that they have enough RAM to utilize the GPUs at high res, unlike the 970's...

I might try that again this time.

The best logical thing to do for me is to wait for 1070 with aftermark cooler from asus or msi ! sell my 970 and get the 1070 :D IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT

Ouch... That totally annihilates single GTX 970. Compared to GTX 980 Ti it's faster than I though. It's a perfect card for 1440p.

I wonder how well custom GTX 1080's overclock... Single 8-pin connector is surely the limiting factor.

    GTX 1080 OC results

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

base clocks reported, so add the difference in baseclocks to the stock boost and you'll get effective boost OC

Not bad, 20-25% @1440p, just need to wait for the descent priced versions now, $699 is to much.
I miss some SLI comparison (found for 970 SLI in other review) and none the less, if the 1080 has any advantage for 3DVision.

Thanks for the review as always Hilbert, a good read.

Certainly a step up tech wise - I do think the pricing is getting a little silly at this point though, especially with the "Founders Edition".

I feel AIB cards will be something to watch out for - hopefully even better.

I'm honestly tempted, being a sucker for new releases, and AMD's new releases could further lower the price of the Ti which I'd like to resell!), buuuuut on this occasion I won't be making that decision until AIBs at least. Even then, I'm not sure. - I need someone like you to stop me spending money pointlessly :p

Great card and about +20fps ref vs ref @ 1440p in most games, not bad at all.
But I think this chip can do better and will therefore wait for 3rd party coolers.
Still wish we knew when they'll arrive.

Thanks for those. Seems to put it in more perspective for OC'd 980Ti's etc

Not as huge as it initially looks - but still very impressive.

For those definitely getting the 1080 series, do yourself a favour and wait for AIB's!

GTX 1080 is surely one hell of a card. I will wait for the Big Pascal/Ti

Compare 980ti reference overclocking to 980ti custom board overclocking

difference wasn't that huge, mainly limitation is temperature and power

    same here I imagine,

maybe 2200-2300mhz is possible on water, but i don't expect it to be as insane as people expect

And again an aluminum heatsink that in reality is zinc so the fins can be soldered to the vapor chamber...

If it wasn't for this and the price, as always with nvidia, this would be an excellent product.

    GP104 is a beast!
Performs better than I thought it would against GM200. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for anyone below a 980Ti. I can't wait for the GeForce GP100 now :D

    Thanks for the review Hilbert.
Looking forward to the AIB reviews and their overclock results!

It appears 1070 will have 1920 cores, so 5 SMs disabled

True. My card's were once reference before I put the Hybrid cooler on. (and still very overclockable!).

Now to find a method to force myself to wait for Big Pascal....hmmm

Great card. I think Ti version will be able to run all games at 4K. I'll get 1070. But need a review and the price. :D
