I think an iD dev said in a tweet that the Beta used some form of mixed Medium preset compared to final release.

Vulkan will most likely turn the tables around in AMDs favor or at least vastly improve AMD performance I'm sure.
Even if iD is demoing Vulkan with a GTX 1080 but that's probably more of a publicity stunt for NVIDIA than anything else; marketing a new GPU with a new API and game.

Especially GCN 1.0 / 1.1 should see a nice perf boost in Vulkan I think.

    EDIT: found it:

Yeah, they said this, but even at Medium AMD cards get their asses kicked.
Even at Low, too. So it's not Ultra Shadows.

I will be very interested to see the image quality comparison of the shadows now. Fingers crossed.

I found a method to make the game run like a dream on amd:
    here is a guide.
    http://imgur.com/a/M0CO1

It requires to be set on each start of the game and inbetween each levels.
I am now getting constant 60+ fps on mix of ultra settings rather than 35 on low.

it really works. I am working my way through doom but its annoying as hell as I have to quit after ending each level, delete files and set it up again.

few people commented on my method on other forum and it works for them too

I've heard of Nvidia users with performance problems doing the same thing to improve performance.
They've said it does work, but there's one downside: you'll lose your collectibles and classic maps.
If you want the classic maps and decide to play them from the menu, they won't appear after deleting those files.

Nice find! Would putting the files as read only work? I'm not to bothered about SP now I've finished it, however I'm trying to get a steady framerate in MP.

I've tried read only but it did not helped. Game will create .tmp file
I guess its not a fix for multiplayer and not for those who are indeed looking for colelctibles.

Just for those who want to play campaign level by level with a little breaks inbetween :)

Ah cool. The new drivers seemed to have helped a lot with SP with the little testing I've done so I'm hoping MP will also be improved!

Before, standing in the same spot in the opening room, with R9 390:
    Low 85 Medium 63 High 54 Ultra 36

    Now, same thing:
    Low 85 Medium 85 High 80 Ultra 75

That's way more than the "35%" they listed!

MASSIVE improvement on my 390X with new driver. I can run with shadow quality on Ultra now as well, everything else was already on nightmare/ultra. Gotta say I was not expecting this, very happy. Was pretty damn quick too.

Edit: I've taken out two gore nest so far and literally not one single drop below 60FPS. The v-sync thing may not be a issue for me anymore :)

Did anyone notice an improvement under GCN 1.0 cards?
BTW cheers for the boost in performance.

I'm curious to hear about this as well. I'm seeing posts in steam forums of 290/X owners seeing same improvements as me on 390X. Which I was expecting since both GCN 1.1. Hopefully GCN 1.0 got some attention too!

Well on the other thread someone with a R7 270x seen an improvement from 45FPS to 60FPS.
So, i guess it's fixed for all GCN Cards after all.

Took 4 days to AMD, many benchmarks are already done.
But it was fast for AMD ancient standarts :)

That was me! I'm so impressed with the difference - around 30% :D

That guy is limited by v-sync tho, he's at 30.0fps exactly. We'll see the full result after this is fixed.
