Nvidia Announces the GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080

I dont like the stock cooler i reckon it run about 80c -85c on the stock cooler if i get a gtx 1080 i wait for the vendor versions , but we wont get the $600 price here in the u.k it be about $800

 

Saw a screen somewhere , was overclocked to 2000mhz i think and was running at 67 degrees celsius.

With 980 cards still selling for around $1000 here, I don't think the 1080 will be anywhere near these quoted prices.

 

so if im reading this right if we all buy the 1080 at 599 we get a semi overclock able card but if we dish out the extra 100 we get full 100% overclocking power,gees sounds like buying a new phone oh it only cost 599 but if you want that extra space more horse power drop 100 more.

 

yeah but was the gpu at 100%, was the fans at 100%, and was it a demanding game, it be a miracle if tthe stock blower cooler stays under 70c without a noisy 100% fan speed , 67c with low fan speed under load is what you expect out of an more expensive vendor card

 

$600 is only the american price other countrys it will be much higher , if the import taxes was not so high i would buy all my pc parts from the usa there so much cheaper over there

 

The game i THINK was rise of the tomb raider, about fan speed i have no clue, we have to wait and see for sure, when Hilbert reviews it.

 

It was U4E Paragon, running on specially binned 1080..


I think normal wont go over 2000mhz, more like up to 2000.

 

Ah, ok thanks Tj, well if i'm going to get a 1080 it will be founders anyway.

 

It's only a 180W card, I don't see why a reference cooler couldn't keep it very cool.

 

There is literally nothing backing this up. He never said it was specially binned and there is no evidence that even the founders editions are specially binned.

 

Why not, that was a OC'ed to the max gpu what they showed there and it was kinda obvious because he also mentioned this special OC potential with founders gpu editions right after they showed that 2114MHz clock..

It was the same when Intel PR/CEO showed DC 4790K @ 5Ghz air saying this is it.. But you saw how that turned out, avg still 4.6 - 4.8Ghz.

 

The GPU was overclocked, we have no idea if it was overclocked to the max.

The founders editions of the card are the new reference cards, that come with vapor chamber cooling and higher quality PCB parts. The non-founders will be AIB partner boards. There is no indication that the founders cards are higher binned, it's possible they are, but there is no statement from Nvidia or anyone else saying that.

The higher overclockability statement can just as easily be attributed to the vapor chamber cooling increasing headroom. Until we have benchmarks or something that officially says they are higher binned, it's all conjecture.

 

Then check that video again., Im pretty sure he said something like if you want better OC get the founders ED, like this one today.

I mean If base is 1607MHz and boost up to 1800MHz, then that boost 2114mhz is around base ~1900mhz..

Now if 3dmark reads that 1800mhz as base it would mean its a OC'ed variant, no? Which even lowers total perf. if true vs OC'ed 980Ti.

Here it always reads base frequency, even by old 780GTX (real boost was 1202MHz).


I think max boost by GM20x is usually 164-177MHz (base 1000MHz), by GK110 with boost2.0 it was ~150MHz

I believe only statement from NV re AC is from their blurb “New asynchronous compute advances improve efficiency and gaming performance.” We still dont know for sure if it does it with a hardware scheduler or just better software/driver context switching.

 

Haha would've liked to have seen the reaction of the person on this site who was saying that no way would nvidia name the new cards as they have been because it would've been a "marketing nightmare".. Love it when cocky people get proved wrong..

To add some relevance to this i'm actually very excited for these cards. Been waiting patiently to update my 7950 however with recent progress in gaming laptops I'm almost tempted to wait until mobile versions of the 1070 are available..
