No need to upgrade any more, you can just use your 7 or 8, 8.1 key for a clean install since TH2

You sure about this? I've been using non-legit Windows on my main pc because my key is invalidated by new hardware... I have maybe 5/6 keys between windows 7,8,8.1 but I've been too lazy to go through upgrade process ;p

So this is what happened a few months ago (shortly after 10 released

Upgraded to Win 10, system was laggy as all get out (probably all the background downloads/updates it was doin) put up with it for a few hours and decided it sucked after the second "BUY MICROSOFT OFFICE" popup. Rolled back to Win 8.1, for some reason its performance was junk as well. Formatted, reinstalled 8.1 lost a lot of stuff because i was too lazy to back it up. been fine since.

Like i said, not looking forward to that again at all :-\

Very sure, did it myself for this install I'm running now, installed 10 Pro with no key, inserted an old 7 Ultimate key once I hit the desktop, activated with Digital Entitlement for my hardware

Needs to be the TH2 release of 10, and 7 Pro/Ultimate or 8.x Pro for 10 Pro, otherwise 10 Home

TH2 is the November update, also known as the 1511 update. Build number 10586. The latest ISO from MSDN should be TH2, as that's the last build that was released to the public.

Yep, latest ISO, actually there is a February 2016 ISO too, you can download it from MSDN I would imagine, or Techbench

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/techbench

I'm running a Greasemonkey script to get all ISOs from techbench but the Feb Win 10 ISO is still there for normal downloads

Not sure why I am using it, I already have most ISOs saved from my old TechNet account, but can't hurt

It may be circumstantial but I ran into upgrade issues. I could not run a defrag after upgrade to windows 10. I received an error message about volume missmatch after it got to about 30%.

Microsoft was confused "New OS at the time" and got me over to one of their 3rd tier tech "Hot shots" who remoted into my box. He was unable to figure what had happened.

I formatted and reinstalled and not one issue since.

Since DX 12 very much connected to win 10 , it has to be involved.

Just answering his question, with an example.

I have been reading that Windows 10 is better coupled with these newer drivers, and Windows 10 is the only OS with Directx 12 support.

AMD's aggressive driver optimizations is forcing NVidia to respond in kind. Seems like they are putting more and more work into these drivers, which is good for us end users.

It seems like with every iteration, there are improvements. Small improvements, but improvements nevertheless. And over time they add up!

It's impressive that they can still get performance out of Maxwell v2, even at this late stage.

how late 980ti is not even 1 year old, at least 980Ti.:nerd:

I think we will see more and bigger boosts soon aka r337 driver boosts, especially with SM6.0 dx12 path. :)

    Slight improvement in Tomb Raider

Hitman runs way better than in the guru3d review; I got 11% performance boost from 15% clock increase, guru3d was run at approximately 7.6% lower clocks, so at the clocks in HH's review I should be getting 5.57% less fps

I got 63 fps at 1300/7000 so it *should* translate to 59.4 at HH's clocks vs 58 posted in the review on older drivers
