what's wrong with UE3? First of all, outdated, second, if you don't have absolute 60fps-lock you're going to have a bad time. Third, you showed screenshot from game which doesn't have any physics, and that game is unique because it's using some real-life photographic tehnique.

Yes it's outdated, but still you can make excellent graphics with this engine.
This game does use photographic technique for some textures, but that's irrelevant cause textures aren't part of the engine. They use this method cause it's cheaper and easier.

Physics is also irrelevant. But you can use engines like Havok for physics.

Btw, this is one of the best looking games, and it doesn't use full potential of UE3.

The first DisHonored looked like an oil painting. It was beautiful.
As such, keeping with that art style... it's not a matter of flashy technical abilities. They can make the sequel in UE3 and still have it look incredible because of the style they are using.

    Not idTech5.
It's using a modified version of idTech6, which does not use MegaTextures. Does not have a frame rate cap.
    And supports Vulkan.

People need to get over this idea that "idTech is awful" simply based off of one form of the engine.

It's not people's fault if they think "idTech is awful", and it's also not they fault if they still think that because not all gamers follow forums on daily basis.

Can you provide any evidence for that?

But that's the thing, people are forming these opinions based off of idTech5.
    The fifth version of idTech.

    And now, there's idTech6.

There have been 6 distinct builds of the engine. The broad generalization that "idTech is garbage" based off feedback of one version of the engine is ignorant (and, before people get all offended... to be ignorant is not an insult).
And, the majority of those with issues against idTech5 are SLI/Crossfire users.

There's been nothing that's out right said that Doom will support Vulkan, but early talk of the engine described it as an upcoming OpenGL/Vulkan based engine.
A few people from id have hinted at Vulkan support for Doom and "future projects"... but, there's been nothing definitive.

Also, am I the only one who thinks it's odd that we have a release date. But haven't seen so much as a single in game screenshot.
Yeah, the game was announced last E3, but... no gameplay. No screens. Just a CG trailer from E3.
I'm still holding out hope that Bethesda's E3 conference will announce a new Wolf game from MachineGames, or possibly a sequel to The Evil Within.

I would say opengl based engine means better performance on nvidia cards, i remember this since the original counterstrike days in 2000, when u put opengl mode the game worked better with nvidia card and ati would struggle and induce input lag on that mode

idTech6 (DOOM) is confirmed to run on OpenGL 4.5.

The Void Engine is a derivate of it, so it probably will run on OpenGL too. Whether Dishonored 2 will also support Vulkan is yet to be seen, depending how much extra performance one can squeeze out of it. Remember that Vulkan, similarly to DX12, is only useful for CPU-bound situations where you have tons of objects on the screen. Very useful for RTS/MMOs, not sure about an action game though.

From the DOOM Beta however one can extrapolate that the engine runs incredibly fast on both AMD and NV cards.

according to the PCGamer article today (which is worth reading) You will get to choose to play as either Corvo or Emily at/near the start. Both have their own different abilities and this just gives even more gameplay options. I played the first one 2x and working on a third, with a different playstyle each time. It looks like Dishonored 2 is going to have 2x the replayability of a game that was pretty good in that regard already. It's looking pretty good to me so far. :)

Ok. Looking at those screenshots I am almost positive the rumor Dishonored 2 is using id Tech 6 is true. Quite honestly though after playing Doom and seeing these screenshots I'm excited! Looks great! :nerd:
