Colorful Offers GeForce GTX 980 Ti iGame KUDAN

Can someone inform Colorful that the GTX 980 Ti will be obsolete in a month and any customer who buys it will be full of buyers regret when they GTX 1080 hit the shelves?

 

No offense but that remark above is just based on speculations and even those don't reveal/imply anything of that sort.

Nothing so far implies that a 6GB GTX 980Ti will be obsolete when GP104 gets released.


P.S: I meant performance wise not as a choice which obviously is not a good one until we see what Pascal offers.

 

Shame really, it at least looks the business with custom PCB, uprated power delivery and a beast of a cooler.

Can't see them selling many of these, maybe they can use it as a template for a Pascal based version.

 

When 980 was released it was barely faster than 780ti, by time that difference was larger and larger.

People are expecting 1070 to be faster than 980ti, be real.

 

Yeah but even if the new cards aren't that much of an improvement over the 980TI the 980TI will still lose some value, kind of what I'm banking on as I might pick one up on ebay when the new cards drop, I agree with RavenMaster it would be a mistake to invest in a 980TI at this point.

 

I still have the feeling that the best custom PCBs are too late in the product cycle to really matter.

 

1070 should be faster than 980ti.
you all forget the 40 to 28nm move, how the 660ti was as fast as gtx580
so now we have 28 to 14/16nm
980ti have 8m transistors and these new cards 1080 will be double and 1070 something less but I doubt that will be 8m, so both of these cards will be faster than 980ti by a lot, my point of view.
if there is a 1060, or whatever the name scheme is, will be fast as 980/980ti ... maybe
or maybe the full version of the GPU with the HBM2 will be twise as fast as 980ti and the 1080 will be 70-80% faster than 980ti for marketing reasons.

The 1080 is being based off of GP104, not GP100. It's not having double the number of transistors, at most it will be 10-15% more. The 1070 will most likely have the same number of transistors, or maybe even slightly less. It will probably be slightly slower then a 980Ti but it will also probably cost like $350-400.

They'll do a refresh in 2017 with GP100 as lead.

 

ok for the GP100 , but I don't expect a 1080(based on GP104) 70-80% faster than 980 Ti !

I think many people will be disapointed if they thought thaht 1080 will be 70% faster than 980 Ti !!!

GP104 will be like 15% faster then a 980Ti, but it will be like $500-550. I'm sure it will come with some new marquee features too, similar to Maxwell with DSR/MFAA.

They'll probably do another launch in Nov/Dec for a Titan model that features cut down variants of the Tesla chip.

What does this thread have to do with GP104 and the 980Ti?

 

I'm expecting the 1080 to be faster than the 980ti (not the 1070). Although 1070 probably will be faster than a 980ti by around 15-20%. My guess is that the 1080 will be around 30-40% faster than the 980ti.

The price of the 980ti will probably drop by a hundred bucks and the 1080 will take on the original price of the 980ti's when they were first released. Happens pretty much every year when the new cards take over.

I'm not saying the 980ti is a bad card (its a superb card) but when you can pay the same price as the 980ti was before its end of line sale began and get a 1080, most tech enthusiasts would go for the higher performing 1080.

So at this point in time, releasing a new 980ti is pretty much pointless.

 

My guess:
GTX 1070 - performance between GTX 980 and GTX 980ti (closer to GTX 980) @ 400 USD
GTX 1080 - performance around 5-10% faster than GTX980ti (stock) @ 550 USD

So, I agree and think it is a little late for a GTX 980ti release.

 

It all comes down to pricing and actual performance. This 980Ti with its custom PCB and cooling solution will probably outperform the first 1080 cards, although in a more inefficient way. Same goes for that 660Ti vs GTX580 remark. Take a beefy GTX580 like a Matrix Platinum or sorts and the 660Ti takes a beating.
But take a good overlocked 660Ti and then it takes a very good 580 to compete with it.

In the end it all comes down to the performance vs price ratio, regardless of what chip is inside. True; the new technologies around the corner might stir things up a bit, but not for 2016 anymore I think.

If priced right, a 980Ti can still be a valid purchase imho.

But it would indeed be really, really silly to buy an expensive card like this, when in ~3 months, the next generation (regardless of how big of a performance bump it will have) will be out and you can either buy the new cards, or a cheap 980Ti...

Somehow I think that's what Nvidia will do, unless they seem themselves forced to compete with AMD's performance.

 

Does any other 980Ti supplier have a similar offering?
