There were bugs, I remember them perfectly. And naming them would result in tons of people installing release HD7970 driver.
Performance was like 10~15% worse than next driver made. But you can take it as worst case scenario value.

I guess, we will see some driver being as best, but why not to include worst? Comparing them may be fun.

despite tess. cheat needlessly introducing additional level of nonconformity
and despite purpose of this thread not being competing, but data collection/investigation.

the guy just can't help himself hahhaha priceless

Good afternoon, can we please limit the discussion here to methodology/ things related to the test

We still need some suggestions for nvidia drivers to test

We want to avoid actual game benchmarks cause not everybody will have them

Anyone got any ideas for standalone tests?

We won't be comparing results from different users :)

Thanks for posting, I think we want to avoid games that don't have a benchmark integrated because it's harder to keep tests standards if we're just logging fps in normal gameplay

I plan to stay with this gpu for maybe another few months, just bought it about 3-4 months ago....came from a Fx 6300 and a gtx 770.I will be getting a 980 ti more then likely soon. And the more I read about newer games not supporting Sli I am dissapointed big-time, that was the main reason I upgraded my whole system in order to run/utlize sli properly with a strong foundation ( intel vs amd ) but we will see what I end-up with god only knows!

Sorry about that boss-man, It was mainly for (undying) he and I are buddys hehe.We tend to argue over which is faster his 280x vs my 780 lol. :)

Haha! You got it. Sorry if I side-swiped the thread that was not my intention.Nz

@ Undying, hey maybe we can create a new thread you and I, something like Amd vs Nvidia in 20 or so games, we can get other users involved as well? :)

Just so you guys know I do not hate either company, I ran Amd for many years cpu's Radeons ect, now I switched over to Intel/Nvidia but again its just a friendly benchmark nothing else. Nz:)

Would really appreciate some help picking nvidia drivers

We want drivers that represent milestones so Kepler release, Maxwell release etc, and also wanna make sure these drivers weren't problematic

    It's a slow process

Feel free to make suggestions :p

    @nz3777 & anyone else:
We'll release all required information and rules in Friday evening CET(EU time).
In about 15~18 hours from now. So participants may find time at weekend.

@Ieldra: We will need those 2 drivers to fill given time frames. It is last thing we wait for. If there is no important driver in there, just go trough drivers by yourself. Read comments in their threads and pick one closest to optimal time frame, which was not causing serious issues or risk to HW.

It would have been nice to have few special drivers like "AMD Omega" or driver which improved performance for all GPUs in all games. But we can live without them as those improvements should be present in any driver released after.

    Hi guys

I'm very happy to particpate in this test, depends on games I can benchmark,I have Palit GTX780,GTX Titan X or R9 390X(this is now in girlfriend PC,but I'm sure I can have this card for few days) and I can borrow from friend MSI GTX 970 too as he will just happy to swap his 970 for my Titan X for few days

    Hope this helps

    Thanks,Jura

I can give you some hints about GCN drivers. The first real performance improvements came with the 12.11 drivers. Then it was the 14.12 Omega release. The most important release afterwards were the 1018.0 drivers that were leaked. If you don't care about leaks, then the order is like this:

    • 12.11
    • 14.12
    • 15.7.1
    • 15.12 Crimson
    • 16.4.1 Crimson

Believe it or not, all these drivers have performance improvements. The greatest being the jump from 14.12, and the minor being the Crimson releases. The 15.12 and the 16.4.1 Crimson drivers actually have meaningful increases even for GCN 1.0, believe it or not.

    If you mean release dates:

    • 12.11 final - January 2013
    • 14.12 December 2014
    • 15.7.1 July 2015
    • 15.12 Crimson December 2015
    • 16.4.1 Crimson April 2016

There have been incremental releases between 12.11 and 14.12, but I believe that these are the drivers that should be focused on.

EDIT: There is also this post I've made, where I had exhaustively compared the 14.12 "generation" of drivers, to the "new" generation when AMD actively started to work on the overhead issue.

AMD driver selection was done 1st. And only possible change may happen (Bold):
    16.4.1 – Crim
    15.11 – Crim
    15.11.x – ccc
    15.7 – ccc – Win10 driver
    14.12 – ccc – Omega
    13.3b3 – ccc – HD7790 release (GCN 1.05)
    12.11b11 – performance driver
    12.2 – Stable GCN
    11.12 – release GCN
