980 Ti Owners Thread

It cools great I have removed lower drive bay from my Haf 912+ now I have a 200mm fan blowing cool air directly onto my GPU,s keeps them nice and cool

 

Yes this is what i would do ,, i have 6 1tb wd blacks atm for storage and some steam games, there quite old drives now so i was in thinking to replace them with 2 or 3 2tb drives or two 3tb drives ,,

is there room in the back of the case for a ssd as well as the two hdd you can mount there as well , so if i did this i could remove all hdd drive bays :banana: dam,, the cost just keep going up .

So will need one Core v71 case and at least 2 3tb hdd for storage plus two 120mm fans for the bottom

 

I thought I'd chime in as I also have 980Ti SLI setup.. my temps have been pretty good here. Especially after I removed the stock heatsink and replaced the stock thermal paste that EVGA used. I switched to Gelid GC-Extreme paste and it lowered my temps almost 6-8C over the stock stuff.

On a 2nd note here is my setup for my case, Fratal Design Define R5.

Intake Fans
2xFractal Designs HF-14 (Front)
1xFractal Designs HF-14 (Side) - I also added a 10mm spacer, fan was making noise sitting flush with the fan grate on the case.

Exhaust Fans
1xProlimatech PRO-USV14 (Back) - Used a 15mm fan here otherwise was hitting the top mount radiator.
2xCorsair H110 Fans (Top) - Stock fans that came with that water cooler


The Asus VIII Hero board has a 2-pin thermal sensor, I used this sensor which I stuck it into a small gap in between the GPU backplate and PCB on my 980Ti. That temp sensor controls all the fans except for the CPU fans. So when my GPU get hot that ramps up the fan speeds on my case.

The sensor will usually read about 8-10C below the actual GPU temps, so I adjusted my fan curves to match that so they reach 100% at a reading of 75C.

After getting that all setup with the thermal sensor and fans it really helps my temps a lot. Top GPU usually sits around 68-72C, Bottom GPU around 60-64C.

Cool there is room for the ssd in the back as well as two hdd ,,,,,,,, right ok i will now have to save up my pennies again ,,,,,,,,,, PC = neverending spending .

Currently my setup in my Define S is like this (and works best):
2 x AF140 front (intake)
1 x AF140 side (intake)
1 x AF120 bottom (intake)

1 x AF120 back (out)
1 x H110i GT top (out)

When idle the fans run at 500RPM, when gaming I increase the fan speed to max (except side at 75%) which is loud but at least it keeps the cards at temp limit (83 degrees) and cards dont throttle at this point (1329MHz).

V71 must become quite dusty, no?

Nope.

 

My connectors span across the whole back side of the PSU, not just in one corner like yours. This makes the bottom fan not very effective :/

So if I were to get a new case, you guys would recommend the Thermaltake V71 or the Fractal Design R5?

My current case is some cheap replica brand (Compucase). It has acceptable airflow but for example just one 120 mm fan place in front, which is further blocked by HDD drivebay.

I've tried pushing the cables to the back and sides as much as possible but it's still pretty cramped up and untidy.

 

Well I don't know how silent the V71 is but it looks to be a good case. If you want silence anyways R5 is the way to go.

If you look at the picture I posted you can do many fan setups. Ssd is on back, hdd is in the top optical drive bay lol, just sitting there. I'll find a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter (optical to hdd bay adapter).

Max airflow with that setup. The available bottom space I have right now there, gpu is going there. Will do a push pull.

Haha that looks terrible man. Get a new case. (I'd recommend the R5 simply because I have it and it's silent lol).

 

Hi ...

I am having problems keeping my ASUS Strix under 90 c, under heavy load.

I have excellent airflow in my Corsair 600C,so that's not the problem!

I have tried custom fan profiles in MSI Afterburner, but it goes totally nuts and very loud, so that is not an option. One more thing ... when i manually try to set fans to 100% in Afterburner it does not override the Auto option? I can not set any manual fan speeds at all?

The only option as i see it, is doing a Corsair hydro cooling solution, or maybe the card is faulty?

I'm pretty frustrated spending this much cash on a card that underclocks over 90c ... what do you all think?
