Sorry man that i have not gotten around to modding your bios this weekend, got into a bit of a busy period as of late with work related issues
though i will get around to it, i also have other people i need to chat to as i need to upload my bios when i get time also from that its possible someone might be able to help you until i can get around to helping you, it will probably be next weekend when i get some free time or sometime this week, though if you havent had help by then, i will make it a priority for you.

    No problem man :)
I re-read the thread and mostly your posts.
Have you found out why 1200/1600 gives u less score than 1150/1600 ?
Maybe you should try with 1500 mems to eliminate them.
Maybe the problem is power limits.
I have a problem with them as well, whilstl my card has much better VRM, 16 phases for 2 gpus so its 5+1+1 per gpu and them being 60A each instead of 40A(thanks to gupsterg!)
When I run stock clocks, 1030MHz, there's no downclocking.
When I do 1200MHz, the clocks are not stable. They are ~1118, 1119 etc...
Basically they fluctuate much more than they should. I tried to play around power limits but no success.
Maybe I have to reinstall the drivers when doing "limit" mods ?

Anyway, what DPM7 voltage did u use for 1200 clocks ?

I think on the OCN thread you were going to test what is the highest stable GPU clock you get ie no fluctuation.

    I'd find that point.

What I did when creating Enterprise's rom for ref pcb/cooler 295x2 to do 1100MHz GPU 1550 RAM stable.

    Step 1

Set ROM to have appropriate DPM 7 voltage for the default GPU clock of 1100MHz. We checked his default ROM VID with default clocks and he stated he used +70mv in MSI AB to get that OC artifact free. I got him to run 3dmark FS with his OC settings and state MAX VDDC logged. It took me 2 attempts to get the right VDDC due to droop from VID set.

    Step 2

He stated ROM was dropping clocks unless he added +50% PL in MSI AB. To be safe I initially only increased TDP / MPDL by 10% over stock, then 25% and finally 50%. His card was still dropping clocks. I then added 10% to TDC then (137A to 150A) with still 50% to TDP / MPDL and all was stable.

Only other thing worth stating is before I went for any adjustment of TDP / MPDL / TDC in rom I adjusted MAX ASIC temp from 75c to 85c.

yeah I wanted to do this test today :)
I will do it later, for now I'm doing 1000/1018/1030 test we talked about :)
Back to OCN for results :p

ok so I finished my ROM for 1100MHz/1500MHz.
    GPU1- 1212v set in the dpm7
    GPU2- 1250v set in the dpm7

    Real max voltage is:
    GPU1- 1.195v
    GPU2- 1.234v

Would be nice to see how much volts ur 290X/390X needs for 1100/1500MHz clocks :)

my card with 1050/1350 runs ok and 1100/1500 +25mv trough msi ab runs ok.

if i try to edit the bios trough hawaii bios editor and add 25mv on the powerplay table (dpm0 gpu and mem freq table) and first 3 values on voltage table and add 25mv on limit tables on every dpm0 values... i have black screen on boot. Every value edited has 900mv default

i think because on 2d sometimes my gpu remain to 300mhz but ram goes to 1500mhz (3d state) with voltage that remains to 0.938v (gpuz... and it's quite strange because default values on dpm0 are set to 0.9v).

i think that i must add 25mv not only to dpm0 but to some other state.

    someone can help me?

i think that i needs only to identify the windows dpm state (where frequencies are 300/1500 with vgpu 0.938) and set the ram to 1350 instead to 1500 only in that state, adding 25mv to dpm0 only..

founded a solution... i have edited to 1500mhz only the dpm7 for the ram, adding 0.25mv to dpm0, so under windows i have spike to 1350mhz and under full 3d i have the ram to 1500mhz with 25mv offset... :)

So I skimmed around and couldn't find a definitive answer. I know the 390X has different memory than the 4GB 290X but is it the same for memory thats on the 8GB 290X? Has anyone flashed a 8GB 290X to a 390X and what are the results? Thanks.

From when I viewed & modded 290X 8GB rom for a member it doesn't have same RAM IC as 390X. The 390/X roms have slightly tighter RAM timings as well.

If I use my 290X stock 1250MHz strap timings in say 1500MHz or 1625MHz strap so RAM frequencies like 1475 or 1525 use tighter timings vs stock 290X rom I beat a 390X in benches clock for clock by 3%. The benches I compared were ones where I believe the extra ram on a 390X doesn't come into play.

Besides RAM IC used The Stilt posted on OCN that the 390/X roms have some tweak in them to allow memory controller to achieve higher RAM speeds vs 290/X.

I tried a complete VRAM_info table from 390X rom in my factory 290X rom with my RAM IC timings and it didn't raise RAM OC ceiling and for the RAM frequencies which my stock rom was stable the modded one artifacted.

My best results for 24/7 use/benches is factory rom modded to clocks & voltages I require with tightened timings.

So if I have a Saphire 8GB 290X you reccommend a modded stock bios over flashing to a 390X?

    Yes, but can you state:-

    a) do you have 290X 8GB new edition Tri-X or Vapor-X?

    b) what is RAM IC on your card?

New edition Tri-X uses same PCB/VRM phase design as Nitro 390/X. SO that ROM should be very compatible as long as ROM support RAM IC on your card.

IF you have Vapor-X 290X 8GB I'd be hesitant to try 390/X rom on it, the 390/X is 6+1+1 phases design, Vapor-X 290X is 10+2+1 from some new discussion I had via PM with a forum member who could tell me more than I'd found on the web.

Thanks. Its the new Saphire Tri-X, not the Vapor X. Not sure on RAM as I just ordered the card and it will arrive later this week.

No worries, when you have card run Memory Info Tool to check RAM IC on card.

So I got my Saphire Tri-X 8GB 290X and GPU-Z lists it as Elpida RAM.

Post 907 has a memory info tool link which will tell you exact IC, GPU-Z only state brand.
