clock for clock GK110 should be faster than GK204 but Maxwell oc higher than kepler, thus the increase performance.

That aside, how's your 970 doing at that oc speed ? mine starting to throttle when the temp reach 65 deg C.

I disabled boost 2.0 with a custom bios. In games my card always keeps the max boost clock. not sure why they even made that throttling tech at 65 C, since the card will go up to 70 C, or max 72 if you are at constant 99% GPU usage, which never happens unless you play uncapped fps and/or at settings your gpu just can't keep up with.

    What? No.

    1. There is no "Clock for clock" as these chips are built on two different architectures.
    2. These chips are targeted at different markets thus the balance of units in them is different.
    3. These chips were launched with two years of time between them and thus the balance of units and features is further influenced by this fact.

There is no "GK110 should be faster than GK204". It shouldn't. It may be faster in some games, it may be slower in others. This is completely expected.

Thats a hell of a difference. 108fps vs 81fps...i remember when 970 and 780 ware in pair. Mighty GK110 beaten by GK204 so easily now.

970 was always faster than a 780. Newer drivers for a yet to mature architecture at the time was always going to improve performance and Maxwell OC's like a beast. Those screens caps are of a 970 on 1500mhz vs a 780 at 1150mhz. Makes perfect sense.

The newer the game/tech the bigger the gap it seems. witcher 3 and now u4 engine, the gap widens.

It has to be noted that AMD does even worse in this game than Kepler (maybe all u4 engine games), as the 970 is faster than any AMD card in this title.

So it seems maxwell architecture is used by u4 devs as a coding template.

780 was never on par with a 970, a 780ti was a bit faster than a 970 after release. After driver improvements the 970 is a bit faster than a 780ti. There is no conspiracy.

I read on several forums and have seen several tests about this they all came to the same conclusion there is nothing wrong and nothing has been slowed down.
The newer 9 series architecture drivers has been improved from launch the same happened for the 7 series drivers they were improved until they were working fully.

I suppose the next thread will be Maxwell deliberately slowed down in favour of Pascal.

    Yup, brace for it.
Some people seem to have a hard time realizing that there's only so many tricks a driver programmer can pull out of a specific piece of hardware. After a while, there's no more juice to squeeze. This happens to every generation of GPUs.

just looking at the guru3d reviews, there are several games where the 780 and 970 were tied. It is to be expected that maxwell was improved while kepler stagnated over time.

But that's why I posted the u4 engine game comparison.

People interpret it differently. some see it as driver/architectural efficiency with newer games and tech, some see it as deliberate abandoning from nvidia.

Hence threads like these will keep popping up, imo.

the thing is though, if you look at 7970's performance on release, and it's place compared to nvidia alternatives at the time, and compare it with the 7970 in today's games, it's not difficult to understand why some people feel nvidia tech ages faster.

the 7970 was battling with the 670 and 680, often stuck between them, but then you look up newer games, like witcher 3, and suddenly, its between the 770 and 780.

again, some people will see that as AMD taking a long time to utilize their tech to its full potential, and nvidia does it sooner, while others will think nvidia is slacking once new tech is out.

Same thing goes for Hawaii 290/290X. Competitor of a 780/780ti is now closer or fast as 970/980. Nvidia cards without doubt age faster.

i can confirm this, all my games work better on older drivers (before 355.xx branch) than with current ones.

nvidia is ruining gameplay experiance on kepler cards with all drivers after 353.xx.

Too bad that no benchmark done up till now with these cards can "confirm this".

They do? Credible evidence. Don't you get tired posting the same junk over and over?

No, not junk. Just an observation of last few gen of amd and nvidia cards.

I just want a nvidia card with 512bit memory.

    AMD does it.

instead nvidia tries to push everything through smaller pipes to save cost.

The other name for this is efficiency. I.E. I have a 256bit card that outperforms 512bit AMD stuff.... See?

Your observations are in error, tbh I do not think anybody in this section want to hear about kepler era 200 and 300 series cards.
