You delete the windows.old folder with Ccleaner, atleast I did that on mistake so I couldn't return to W8.1 and actually had to download the ISO from Windows itself. xD OR You can simply follow this guide: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/how-remove-windows-old-folder Via the Clean-up of Windows tool. - - As for the BT map, I'm not really sure about that.
I've never had to do this in my life. You're a genius. I'll have a Carlsberg Export on your health, thanks again.
have two lol You can't delete it yourself because the permissions are from a different windows install, your old one, so you have no permissions over those files Disk cleanup does
Ok, Back to step 1! LOL I updated everything fine back on W8.1, but now I'm back to the begin of the reservation app, well atleast I have a working activation key now and a system that's clean for installation. If all things workout in installing W10 I'll post it in here, cheers for all the help, God bless you all!
So the 8.1 key activated 8.1 again? Good news Well now you can make a 10 Home USB stick if you wanted and upgrade with that, or if you're not in a hurry, wait for the WU one to download again Turns out the problem you were having with activation, was just their servers getting hammered, starting happening with a few others too, eventually activates though, so if it happens again, don't worry
Fun fact for anyone who didn't know, once you upgrade, you have 1 month to go back to your previous version of Windows (unless you delete the windows.old stuff). Presumably after that month your previous license is consumed in the fires of hell and can't be used again.
Haha yeah, maybe I should of just holded a little longer, having Patience is just hard sometimes. Atleast I had the chance to clean my system again fully with a activated key, so I don't have to worry about corrupt files or something like that. Thanks for that, so if you want to delete this map easily, just use the Legendary tool Ccleaner!
Well, no-one knew that was the problem back then, only came to light once you'd wiped, typical lol But yea, clean install is always good with a new OS, happened to me too, I couldn't log into my MSA after upgrading, tried everything I could think of, eventually decided to wipe and clean install First boot, asked me to log into my MSA, tried and it took me straight to the Local account creation screen Got to the desktop, same problem, just refused to let me sign in at all Eventually narrowed it down to 2 step verification on my MSA, disabled that, and it let me log in straight away So I also wiped a perfectly good upgrade for no reason
Yeah, noticed that one too. Though I assumed that much, this being a free upgrade, meaning a license transfer so your old Windows becomes unusable eventually. Want to dualboot? Buy a separate license :nerd: I almost deleted the "Old Windows installation" with CCleaner but thankfully realised what that meant before hitting Clean... so I can revert just in case. On a side note the upgrade was surprisingly painless and flawless, almost everything worked out-of-the-box. Only issue was that soundcard driver thing posted earlier. Dare I say it out loud? Could MS actually have managed to create something truly functional with W10? Nah, I don't wanna jinx it. Wait... :bang:
Well the upgrade well and truly destroyed my PC. Gonna have to take it to a computer repair shop tomorrow.
Anyone else having problems activating Windows 10? Refuses to do it for me and I upgraded from a valid Win 7 key.
Yea loads of people are, it's just their servers getting hammered, just keep trying, it eventually activates No idea yet, not enough info
