    Probably get something like this

But otherwise, yea, you'll be able to make a USB stick, easiest way would be with the ESD > ISO again, or use diskpart to prepare the USB stick and copy the files to it

Seems like a long way round to not do much in the end.

MS must be pushing this update out in stages. My laptop has the files downloading but my main computer hasn't gotten anything yet.

guess that answer my question cause I just want to make backup iso store on my backup drive that i can put on usb stick for installs when need be, seeing i only have 1 usb stick big enough to store window installs on, and use that same usb for other things, so wiped regularly

That's their new activation method for this free upgrade offer

Nothing on my laptop either, but hasn't been on very long

Yea, always good to have a backup, make a DVD if you can too just for emergencies, they come in handy

I only have a DVD drive because the missus' mother likes TV shows like NCIS, so I made the mistake of making her a few DVDs one time,

That was about 3 years ago, and still making them today lol

What happens if I change hardware in my computer? Will my free windows 10 upgrade be locked only to my current hardware, so that if I decide to ex. change my MB, I then will have to buy a new key to activate?

Yup, it's tied to the hardware ID

Unsure yet, but possible phone activation if you do that, no-one knows yet

You will most likely have to call MS to activate every time . I face a similar problem on my test rig.

Maybe install windows 8.1 again, and from there do a new upgrade to windows 10?

Yep but you'll likely need a new 8.1 key, from what Ive heard, it gets converted once you upgrade and can't be used for 8.1 any more

Still, these are all just hear-says atm, nothing official

Let's hope thats not true. I have a full retail copy of windows 8.1, and it would be a shame if I couldn't use it on other computers without having to pay for a new activation key.

The same happened when upgrading a Win 7 key to 8. So this is more than likely to be correct.

I think you're looking at close to 10GB in the end, my brother just had a 9.5GB

Hi all, long time lurker. I've been on the Win 10 insider program for a few months and if anything, I must say this whole process has re-kindled my passion for playing around with OS settings and tweaking the day away. Feels like the old days of XP!

So far I must say WIN 10 has been rock solid. I do run a lean system: Chrome, PyCharm, Resolve 12, a few games and benchmark utilities....that's about it.

My main question at the moment is what exactly are my current options for reverting to a fresh WIN 10 install? I'm currently on 10240.

    1. Can I pop in my 10166 ISO usb and reinstall, then update to 10240 via windows update?

    2. Can I just go to troubleshoot/reset this PC and revert back to a fresh install? I've meant to try this for a while but figured I'd ask first.

    Thanks in advance!

If you upgraded from genuine 7 or 8.1, you can now clean install with the 10240 ISO and it will auto activate, no key needed

Or just go to settings > update and security > recovery > Reset this PC
