I swear with the last two driver releases and windows 10, I get louder coil wine

I get it with anything on the desktop that uses the gpu.

also good example is using gpu caps and test using gl 3.x illuminated torus.

fps hit around 4,800 fps and temps go up and coil wine super loud.

These forced updates aren't just an insider preview feature. It's a part of Windows 10. I am currently running the release version, and opted out of the insider program. There is still no way to prevent or even schedule the installation of updates. I get to schedule the restart after the updates are already installed, but that's it. I wouldn't mind this too much if it only applied to important security updates, but doing it with nvidia drivers is just absurd!

Go to the search and type in Advanced System, open up View Advanced System Settings, go to the hardware tab, go to device installation settings, click no let me choose what to do.

That stops automatic device driver installations. If you don't want Microsoft features, choose "Defer upgrades."

I'm getting both these problems with windows 10 with these drivers, on desktop 3gb of ram is being used by the GPU, and I have nothing open lol, and random screen flickering/artifacts when I have 2 monitors connected, I have two Swift monitors connected, center one is 120hz and the second running at 60hz and experiencing the above issue. very annoying, hopefully it will get sorted soon.

Neither of these settings give me the control that I had in previous versions of windows. Defer updates will only delay ALL feature updates for some time, without letting me choose which ones.

I don't think those device installation settings apply to this situation at all. I have not tested it myself, but several people have reported that it did not prevent the recent nvidia driver update for them.

I always hear a coil whine on any card I've ever used since at least the 7970/570 era at extremely high framerates. Anything over 250 and it's audible.

I finally got this set pushed to all of my machines and so far so good, though I haven't had any trouble with hardly any Windows 10 Nvidia drivers so far.

I think those people are full of it. The setting works fine if you actually clicked the right things, you also need to uncheck a few markers. So of course it applies, it stops you from getting automatic device driver updates, like the GPU driver.

Well, I did both steps (defer upgrades and "never install driver software from Windows Update"), installed these drivers since they already were downloaded, after that I reinstalled 353.49 with DDU.
After reboot 353.54 showed up again and installed themselves automatically...
    Seriously, that freakin windows 10...

Probably because they were already downloaded at that point and placed in some obscure folder, to be installed. I downloaded it through the Mega.nz link posted a few pages back and did a proper clean install, instead of that full junk install on top of my old drivers. It even installs the audio drivers and the 3D crap.

EDIT: Although the PhysX seems to be missing from the drivers

DDU shut off the driver installs for me and I know it worked because I could install my own drivers in peace. Problem is, the drivers that I installed manually did not work. So... I had to turn that feature back on and force Windows to do it for me. I don't have enough time to figure out what the hell went wrong. I'll chalk it up to early adopter woes.

So because Windows installs 353.54, I'm stuck with that. I got better FPS in Witcher 3 with 353.38, but I can't revert back to that. It seems.

I'll manually uninstall the new driver and test it myself. I don't really find your word more reliable than the word of multiple other random people on the internet. :)

EDIT: Yeaaaaah... this didn't work at all: http://i.imgur.com/LkYd41O.png This was after a reboot, so the settings definitely should have been applied properly.

Windows 10 doesn't look safe for SLI users does it.......Unless a magical fix all nvidia driver comes out they should not even release windows 10 as the amount of complaints will cause a media frenzy.

Going to repeat it one last time, this is what I said before already in this thread.

    ________________________________________________________________
Don't know if it'll be possible on anything less then Enterprise, but I do think it is.
    This is what I did:

First, open group policy editor, Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc
Look for Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update

    Go to "Configure Automatic Updates"
Either choose "Disabled", or what I did, choose "Enabled" and option 2 : Notify for download and notify for install.
This should stop the auto download and install updates.

Then next up, download this :
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
I know it says for Insider Preview, but it works on my RTM.

Now from now on, you always run that app first BEFORE you run Windows Update!!!
It will check for updates, will show you which updates there are, and you can select those which you want to hide. Once hidden, you can go to the normal windows update like you always do, and they shouldn't display anymore.

I had a weird issue in the beginning however, it didn't work completely, until I installed one update, removed it again, then did the above procedure again, then everything worked, just saying. Should work from first time however.

    Good luck.

PS.: If you're on of those people who like cleaning their C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download dir, remember, after doing that, you're going to have to re-hide all the updates yet again.
I hope they bring the old and better way of hiding updates back again, because this is a PITA.
