Pfft I remember the Ocean Games one from 1986, that was an awesome game, really smart AI for the time as well.

Yes and I remember it being pretty confusing and not that great.

Like a poor metal gear solid.

I remember reading about it in Game Informer. I still have the issue around here somewhere (I kept all my gaming magazines, I have about a decade's worth). It didn't get amazing reviews, but it certainly seemed like a decent game.

The Ocean game from 1986 was great and is still a good game to play today. Still need to get the items to escape and know the tunnel layout.

It was made by Denton Designs that made the excellent Where Time Stood Still.

Classic movie. Steve McQueen hopping the fence on that Triumph is legendary. I had no idea they made a game from the license.

I don't think the Ocean games one was really a licensed game of the movie, back in them days there were a lot less restrictions on licenses and such of IP's that influenced games.

It's got McQeen's likeness and an MGM logo on the cover, so I presume it was an actual licensed product. No matter, really - pretty cool nonetheless.

You're not talking about the same game as me, hence my mentioning Ocean games who developed the one in 86.

Is there a irony to the fact that both those things had escaped me until you just pointed them out. lol

From what I can remember 1986 was also the year topgun was released by ocean software. Film/game licenses got very serious after this release with the likes of highlander, red heat, robocop, platoon etc which were all produced by ocean. However the great escape was a 1986 title that although had the same name as the movie and gameplay it had no official link to the movie where after topgun things changed. All in the same year 1986, so what you say is true and untrue at the same time. Ocean were kings of the movie licenses and lost the occasional movie license to other software houses like predator by Activision or moonwalker by us gold. In the golden age of home computing which it was things moved very fast and rules were made up as they went along as described in bedrooms to billions.

I remember it all is if it was last year and I still pull out the odd magazine like zzap 64 say from the year 1984 October for the odd read here and there as I have hundreds of them. Probably why I remember so much:)

they made quiet a few games based off it, now if it they where all licensed is another story i dont even think all the games were based off it some just had the name in common

Good times back then, but Predator was truly awful. xD

That was the moment where the legend 'movie license = sh!tty game' was born and still holds true today. (mostly)
