Could I make my 7950 into a 280 without breaking Afterburner?

    GPU 1050mv 960MHz
    Memory 1500mv 1250MHz
    20%

I run Afterburner 2D/3D profiles most of the time but they are decent for stock values.

Your bios actually reports 1188V @960MHz.

Do you have any stable OC? I could make you a normal and an OC version.

The stock volts are seriously overkill. I can manage 1150 with those.
What I mentioned earlier are good for stock.

    OC:
    GPU 1188mV 1100MHz
    Memory 1550mV 1550MHz
    20%

Would be good if #6 was higher for the overhead test. Stock clocks maybe?

Alright, I have a difficulty finding a 280 bios for your card, one that I am sure that will work at least. The editor won't allow me to edit VRAM frequencies, so what I'm gonna do is try to find a bios first, and then port the values of your original bios there untouched. If it works ok for you, we can see about clocks later.

There are hardly any Sapphire R9 280 BIOS available on the internet. I previously asked the forums for help because I wanted to use the UEFI GOP off it and the response I got was "is Fast boot really necessary?"

What I did was that I found the more recent bios for your card (which is always good to have). It takes you from version 015.31 to 015.38. That bios is completely untouched by me, and it should work ok. It is named
    Code:
    MSI-7950-015.38-Untouched.rom
    .

The other file in the pack is the bios you sent me, also completely untouched. The name of the file is
    Code:
    Your-Default-Bios.rom
    .

The last file is a modded MSI R9 280 bios, which is the closest I could find to your cards, from the same vendor at least. I'm not 100% sure it will work with your card. The file name is
    Code:
    UEFI-MSI-R9280-015.44-7950-your-cards-clocks.rom
    .

I know it is probably redundant, but I have to say this now. If by following this procedure something goes wrong, or you have hardware damage, it is not my fault. Knowing that, please continue.

NOTICE: Before you flash your video card bios, make sure that your card has a bios switch, so that if the flashing procedure goes bad, you can use the other bios on your card to repair the primary bios. DO NOT proceed if your card doesn't have a switch.

The switch should look like this (the actual position of the switch might be different than in the picture, we only care that the switch EXISTS):

Now that we have this out of the way, we can continue.

    1) Download ATI Winflash and extract it into a folder. Download the archive that contains the bios files.

    2) Extract the UEFI-MSI-R9280-015.44-7950-your-cards-clocks.rom file from the theoneofgod.zip archive, into the folder where ATI Winflash is, so that the atiwinflash.exe is in the same folder as th Tahiti-extraV.rom. Make sure that the Your-Default-Bios.rom you sent me is also in that folder.

    3) Open a Command Prompt as Administrator in that folder. In Windows 8.1 you can do that by pressing File --> Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

    4) If you have a single discrete GPU in your system and only then, give the following command:
    Code:
    ATIWinflash.exe -f -p 0 UEFI-MSI-R9280-015.44-7950-your-cards-clocks.rom
and press Enter. The card should flash, and an OK button should appear.

    5) Restart and test.

    IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG:

    1) Turn off your system.

    2) Put the bios switch on the card on the other position.

    3) Boot into Windows and open a Command Prompt as an Administrator in the folder where you have Atiwinflash.exe

    4) Put the bios switch on the original position.

    5) If you have a single discrete GPU in your system and only then, give the following command:
    Code:
    ATIWinflash.exe -f -p 0 Your-Default-Bios.rom
    6) Restart and you are back to your original bios like nothing happened.

    Good luck!

now I want to flash my 280x....lowering my vram speed from 6000 (default) to 5800 increases my min fps in valley benchmark (otherwise, temperatures are ~71~72C, no throttling or anything). What do you use for editing BIOS PrMinister? I want to see what is going on in mine, VDDC seems to only ramp up to 1.182 in Boost mode and I have no clue what memory current is, gpu-z wont read my sapphire card, only vddc and amps and watts for the core, nothing on memory.

Thanks for the detailed guide and BIOS. I will give it a try now and report back.
Installed the 280 BIOS fine but Afterburner doesn't show anything and CCC doesn't load. It seems that's the case with modded drivers.

Try a clean install with DDU.

I will try the 280 BIOS with a clean install, didn't know I had to

I'm using Vbe7. It cannot edit VRAM voltage, but it edits all the rest. Your card sounds like it has a rare voltage regulator.

With the new bios, your card is now an XFX R9 280 :p. You should really reinstall the drivers.

Even if it doesn't work (which it might), at least you can keep the latest bios for your GPU.

When you change BIOS (or switch BIOS) the OS detects it as "new" hardware.

Afterburner not always like to change trought drivers/bios changes without reinstall.

Backup AB, unninstall it and reinstall it after CCC is working again.(a reboot after unninstal also...)

Thanks guys. I never thought I would have to install a 280 BIOS as they were rebadged but doesn't look like they're being supported the same ;)
    Now I know :)

I haven't had chance to reinstall the drivers yet but I'll let you know when I do.
Works good. 280 stock voltage is low though (950mV at 960MHz). Seems stable. Thanks again.
