Not every card will overclock the same. There are certain Elpida cards out there that doesn't play nice with memory oc.

    Hi guys !

    I own a Sapphire 290 BF4 Edition and I flashed it to a 290x successfully .
Sadly none bios except PT1T worked for me but today I found something very very interesting !

So I flashed on my 290 the R9 390x modded bios by NETKAS and I was happy to see that it unlocked my shaders and gives me back 2D clock mode (which is disabled on PT1T bios).

I used 1105 / 1375 Mhz (my previous PT1T overclock) and launched Witcher 3 to check the results in game.
But what I found was totally crazy...

The settings of the game are maxed out with 1440p resolution and I added .ini tweaked shadows and foliage

    R9 290 with R9 390x bios results :

    Min FPS : 24
    Max FPS : 28
    Max VDCC : 1.281v
    Max VRM1 POWER : 241,500W
    GPU Max TEMP : 50°C

    R9 290 with PT1T bios results :

    Min FPS : 30
    Max FPS : 34
    Max VDCC : 1.227v
    Max VRM1 POWER : 111,625W
    GPU Max TEMP : 53°C

For the same scene in the game I gain 6 FPS and draw much less power...

I dunno how this PT1T bios manage this crazy thing but here is my question :

Are you guys able to add 2D clock mode to PT1T bios ?

I've changed XFX PowerPlay table to Powercolor 390's just to test
Dunno if it is safe, but... Now I have temps of 290x :)

    For XFX bios it is
    Code:
    data_table 0000a398 #0f (PowerPlayInfo):
    Size 0294

    Code:
    7C15 (temp1) = 157C = 5500 = 55*C
    8C23 (temp2) = 238C = 9100 = 91*C
    4826 (temp3) = 2648 = 9800 = 98*C
    D007 (%rpm1) = 07D0 = 2000 = 20%
    7C15 (%rpm2) = 157C = 5500 = 55%
    581B (%rpm3) = 1B58 = 7000 = 70%
    4826 (temp4) = 2648 = 9800 = 98*C
Change needed values(red), remember to switch them xx<-->xx, change 01 to 00(blue), save, fix checksum. GL HF.
But not all roms have this table.

    temp1: 55C to 50C
    temp2: 91C to 70C
    temp3: same as before
temp4: same as before (this is shutdown temp?

    rpm1: 20% to 50%
    rpm2: 55% to 75%

Those are pretty save temps to me, AMD themselves claims that their chips is completely save till above 95°C

On unedited XFX bios 90*C on core and VRM1, only after 5mins of 3dmark FS Extreme.

yep VRM on XFX bios heats alot more :) but if you can swap powerstates from other cards i think this issue will be fixed

is someone working on R9 290/390 bios editor?
