The samsung memory is gonna be more of an issue, as there are very few 390/x bios available yet.

Some Hynix memory will work as mine did today. Powercolor Turboduo r9 290 with samsung using a the powercolor 390 Hynix memory bios in this thread. YMMV.

The XFX 390X 1050/1250 4gb rom crashes on my Sapphire reference 290X (Hynix vram). "Driver has stoppd responding", games just crash. Temps are lower.

Sorry dude, I feel for you...however Asder00 can only get bios provided to him here or when they get posted on techpowerup. I am in the same boat with samsung memory.

It is doubtful you are gonna find a bios with samsung memory as cards with that kind of memory are far and few between.

Hi again . I did a image with temperature reading after 1 minute torture test OCCT GPU to show you why i don't recommend to use 390x XFX bios on reference r9 290 cards. This leaked bios is warming VRM on my card. Just look at this. Look gpu temp and vrm temp, where original bios reporting higher vcore.

OCCT TEST - 60 seconds, the same card

Actually the powercolor bios worked for me. Even though I have samsung memory. The ones modded for 4 gigs. The lower clocked one worked for me.

The higherclock one works, but my card needs more initial voltage then what is in to boot into windows. Oddly enough it only black screens but does not lock up.

Now I can OC my card to this speeds with Trixx and Afterburner once I am windows with no issue...but my voltages are higher for it to be stable. So I know it is not an issue with the clocks but the voltage.

Strange the temps on my side are fine and its reference, maybe it because I swap all the thermal pads with better 17.0 W/mK versions.

I have a strange theory about VRM temps. The 390x bios makes the Vrm work harder for the core to run lower temps.

While I try it out at my friend's GPU, He is using 290x Ref as well with Accelero Xtreme III, his VRM has crazy high temps, I believe the heat stinks on VRM provided by Arctic Cooling were not enough but at the same time the core is cooler.

When looking at MSI 390x review, I've notice that MSI has design the heat stink in a way that it has much bigger direct contact to the fins while the contact on 290x is much smaller, as if MSI knew that VRM would run hotter.

Take my findings with a gain of salt.

What psu are you using? Does the 12v rail drop to 11.3x with the 290 bios, too? Or is that a behavior exclusive to the 390 bios?
