was looking at the new 980ti and it put down the prices of the other900 series so looking at the 970. Is it worth updating too?. I wanna wait to see Radeon to compare. So is it always a constant as well that every 970 will only use 3.5 vram or did they fix that?.
I upgraded form GTX 770 to GTX 970, and there was a noticeable difference. Everything runs more smoothly. Also less heat dissipation and power consumption. So I recommend you to make the upgrade Cheers!
going from 780 to 970, hmmm... Depends on how much it would cost you. Stock for stock, the 970 is slightly faster. If you're planning to overclock, 970 are beasts. My overclocked 970 Fire Strike graphics score is higher than the EVGA 980 SC. 1400mhz on the core is pretty much guaranteed with a 970, I'm yet to see one that fails to hit that. most hit 1500mhz, or thereabouts. Some go even higher. So yeah, if you're oveclocking, the 970 pulls ahead. That being said, it all depends on how much the upgrade will cost you.
I would rather save up and get a 980/ti if you want a real upgrade. Also, waiting for AMD Fury and there will be some price drops on both sides.
980 wouldn't be much of an upgrade over the 970 in all honesty. 980ti is much better value. Maybe not at the moment, but once the market settles, it'll be a much better investment than the 980. Also, waiting for Fury... as soon as it's out, nVidia will announce something better if Fury is any good.
You'd be better off getting another 780 instead of moving to a 970. The 970 is, generally, between a 780 and 780ti. I'm not seeing 970 prices dropping, anyways.
Hmmmm well it would cost 340$ for the 970 and I'm gonna sell the 780. So I'm thinking it would cost me like 140-180$ bucks for the upgrade. I'm definitely gonna wait and see what AMD does and see if I would consider moving to the red team, and sli is out of the question don't really have the space really and would like to have a single gpu build.
I honestly wouldn't pay that money for such a small "upgrade". You can pick a few games where Maxwell performs better, in general, but the 970 just isn't that much better of a card. Under $100, I probably would.
i had 780 and in the witcher 3 i got 40-50fps and now with same settings i got 120-140fps with gtx 980ti.. what a big jump .. you can check it here
I would hold off and wait for the next generation of nvidia cards. If you're using 1080p then theres no reason to upgrade yet.
Ahhhhh ok. I haven't tried the new witcher yet I'm sill trying to beat #2 in which only had to turned down shadows. Only game that gives me less is shadow of mirror but only on ultra and with hd texture pack when I turn down shadows or just unclick the hd pack I'm good. Ahhhhh so unless I'm getting a 980ti I should hold off unless Radeon is good this go around. (Update): been searching on eBay and the 980s are around 400 to 450 used. Didn't seem that bad. Still 200 to 240$ for a upgrade too much?.
ya im in the same boat as you, currently own an 780OC. I will wait till the Fury offical reviews are released. Than will decide which is better for the money, 980TI or Fury. Not worth going to a 970 with your current 780. More of side grade than an actual upgrade.
Yeah I saw that in allot of comparisons for the 970. the 980 seems nice but not really worth it, I'll need the fury or the ti. I might just wait till next gen though. Thanks for everyone's help ***128522;.
I would not go from a 780 to a 970. Very minimal (if any) FPS gains. The logical upgrade would be the 980Ti, but it's twice as much as a 970. You may even find you like one of the new AMD offerings (Fiji/390x). (I'm so done with AMD but that's a personal preference, many folks still like them) I would definitely wait for AMD to release their new cards prior to any purchase as that is very soon and may affect pricing for all brands.
I've seen the specs on the new Radeon cards and heard the performance sill not on the levthe of the ti and almost no real price difference. Saw that the 980 is 30% better than my 780 but it's still like a 180-220$ upgrade fee. I do want the upgrade though. 780tis are still selling for abit.
