Asus ROG Swift PG279Q WQHD 144Hz IPS Panel and G-sync

that IPS glow in the first picture with ASUS logo is rather extreme.

 

I bet is on 100% Brightness. It makes the IPS-glow stand out more.

Some say IPS monitors brightness should be on 30-40%. Anything over is is to much. But this is only for some monitors.

I really hope this ASUS model is not like the Acer XB270H with glow problems in the corners :bang:

 

I hope we have option to turn off that glowing ring.

 

It was an option on the TN model from last year. So I think it's save to say it will be the same with this model.

 

So trying to spot the difference between the PG278Q and this, anyone know?

PG278Q is based on a TN panel, and this one is based on a IPS panel.

 

With the last Swift (1440p TN panel) glow would be the least of your problems... I hope they step up in QC big time, or else this screen will cost €750 and you have to go through multiple RMAs to get a single screen that works as expected...

 

When is this stuff going to get affordable?? How long does a man have to wait to buy 144hz, 1440p and 1ms IPS at a decent price?

 

Looking forward to the review, ZR24W is begging for replacement.

 

Sounds like I'm gonna stick with my XB270H (lucky it ain't broke) for a while until 3 shipment of PG279Q comes out

I must say the current monitor market sucks donkey balls, Can't say I'm impressed by any of them TBH.

There isn't a single one that combines all the best tech, they all have at least one compromise, whether it be screen glow, response time, resolution etc.

 

There are awefully little monitors that have all the features I deserve to begin with...

 

Most likely we will see them drop in price when 4K/144Hz and 8K/60Hz are normal

But yes, you're right, there's not many 1440p / 144Hz screens, no matter if you go IPS or TN. Add Gsync or Fsync and you're down to very few alternatives.

 

You can ignore advertised response time tho. It has turned into the same as advertised contrast ratio = aka pure liquid bull****.

TFT central compared the Rog Swift TN and the Acer xb270hu IPS (with identical specs otherwise) ... they both had equal measured response time and the blur that comes with it.
And INPUT LAG wise the IPS even was faster than the rog swift.

But ye, i agree. The best one i have seen so far is the widescreen ROG, wich is 3440x1440, gsync, 75hz IPS. Basically everything .... EXCEPT the good refresh rate. And displayport 1.2 could easily get 120hz out of that.
So... again, another ****ing compromise and more waiting.

 

Until more companies start embracing these specs and flooding the market with them, never. There's only a handful of these monitors out so there's no competition to drive prices down.

The addition of IPS is nice but not worth selling my current Swift for this. I was lucky and got a Swift with no issues so not taking the risk of multiple RMA's.

 

That's right, keep it! KEEP IT!
By the time you replace it, donate it to some museum as one of the few ones where QC seemed to have done it's job
