Compared to my allready massive GTX 660Ti 3GB the ASUS STRIX GTX 970 4G DCU2 is HUGE

Im geting a different Chassis to match it all but here it is with my Limited Edition Sabranco Motherboard

Overclock it a bit. Even without any power or voltage changes, you should easily get to 10 or 11k in Firestrike.

He'll probably need to overclock his CPU as well. Firestrike is notorious for prefering i7's.

Well, I got impatient and went to Best Buy and got the EVGA 970 SSC. Being that I am an Elite member, I get 30 days to mess around with this card before I have to make a decision on whether or not I'm going to keep it.

I'm going to put it thought it's paces in a little while and see what i can get out of it.

That result is fine at stock settings, and it's only a synthetic benchmark anyway.
How are your idle and load temps?

this was 5 minutes after a Firestrike run.

my max temp was 69 if you cant see.

and this was during my firestrike run:

this is 15 minutes after the same run of firestrike:

same goes for all 3Dmarks, really. This is why I have been saying for a while that gpu reviews using 3Dmark should always include the Graphics score. P scores in most gpu reviews are irrelevant to me and many others, because a lot of the reviewers use 49xx/59xx cpus and they destroy i5/i7 in physics test in 3Dmark, which unfortunately then makes the actual P score meaningless.

@Phaze, come on, show us some results :p

@Autarch20, congratz, going from a 660ti to 970 is definitely a massive step up.

If you are going to overclock your card, just note that GDDR5 Elpida is not the best Memory for overclocking.

Shame you got Elipda RAM. Otherwise looks good. You're in the green if your ASIC is above 70% as far as I'm concerned. I'm at 79.5%. Haven't had a rating so good since my old EVGA GTX 680 SC.

Well, right now I am perfectly stable at 1479MHz core and 7710MHz memory. I havent needed to touch the voltage yet. I'm pretty sure I have more room to push it, but i'll leave it be for right now. Also, I had Heaven looped for about 3 hours last night and my max temp never exceeded 61c. This is a nice little card.

Seems like a nice sample. I'd keep it.

is there a bios editor out for Maxwell yet? When I run the Fire Strike it's maxing out my power target which in turn is dropping by overclock down to 1380MHZ core. Is this normal? it never use to do this on my 980 or my 780 ti.

I have the power target set to 110% and the temp target selected and set to 88c

    EDIT:

I also notice that my voltage is dropping to 1.112v when the power target is maxed.

Some cards seem to have very aggressive TDP limits in the BIOS. But, you're in luck. There is a Maxwell BIOS editor. Check the OCN forums. You can probably find a premade one that will fix that.

I certainly got lucky, I get zero throttling at all at stock volts and 1580Mhz.
