On another note, is anybody here using an Asus Strix card, probably with a custom BIOS?
I'm asking because it looks like these cards can't go above 1.21v at all, except you apply your OC first (being forced to Asus GPU tweak meh), then use a special program to unlock voltage, and if you're lucky you can have above 1.21v available...

Can anybody confirm this, or give some feedback?

I had this issue with my EVGA gtx980 sc ACX2.0. Games ran fine in stock but as soon as i OC a little bit, the bottom card would down volt to stock voltage causing it to crash.

After I flashed ZOSON's H20 bios, my cards both run in sync and I even managed to oc my cards to 1586mhz (h2o). Before you sell it, I say you flash your cards to custom bios and run some games.

    Thanks for your response shafat.

I'm currently reading through Zoson's thread, and everythink linked and related to it I can get a hold of. Zoson's own words are not quite encouraging for Strix cards, and unfortunately, the community has to do this work on their own.

I've read that supposedly a custom bios flash seems to help, but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble, depending on how good the cards clock on stock. With the Strix I have little hope tbh, but as I can't return my cards anymore I will have to give it a try anyway. It's just Zoson pulled his Strix BIOSs as there supposedly are two versions of the 980 Strix that don't work well with crossflashing, so I think I'll have to mod my own BIOS to not risk any troubles.

It's good to see that it can be done with a BIOS flash, but I expected it to be his game stable bios, not the H2O version :)

Can you give me a voltage number your cards use during load?

Tbh i would just wait until you get all your hardware under water for the best results and low risk.

right now I am running 1.26v load and .864 mv idle 24/7 for 1586mhz benchmark stable. My temps are 25c idle and 40c load.

Ah thanks, 1.26 under load, that's what I wanted to know ;)

This will take another month... I won't be doing anything until I get the watercooling hardware, but with each day I'm losing my enthusiasm to actually do anything.
Also, the more I read the more I'm aware that I bought crappy cards, which doesn't really help my motivation.

I wouldn't say there crap, 2 980s will easily beat a titan x. You also have the strix, wait until there under water and bios modded and they will fly.

Problem is they won't go above 1.21v without additional software / hardmod, and probably won't work with Afterburner, forcing me to use Asus GPU Tweak.
Also their VRM is a different one than almost all other cards, which does not allow anything above 1.21v except if you use Shammy's tweaks cowie posted earlier. I'm already thinking about hardmodding them out of frustration!

I wish I knew that before I bought them, or at least I would have bothered to read it up in the first 30 days so I could have returned them without any troubles. Stupid me, nobody but me to blame for that fault. :backfire:

You could always flash them with Zoson bios or sell them now while there still worth decent money.

Joined the 980 club today pretty much on impulse.
My MSI 970 4G at 1500/8000 was pretty sweet, but I got tempted by an eVGA 980 SC ACX 2.0 I saw in PCWorld today (wtf, when did they start selling good stuff at good prices?!?!?)

Bit of a strange time to buy a 980, especially already having a 970, but the 970 was almost a free upgrade for me at the time as I sold my old 780 to pay for it.

Also I've now got 90 days stepup protection with eVGA so hopefully 980ti is out before end of July :)

Not had time to fully test the card yet as in between night shifts at work today, but initial impressions were good.
    ASIC 78%
Card boosted to 1430mhz out of the box.

I just went straight in for 1480/8000mhz with power limit set to 120%, ran 3dmark fine, looped heaven for an hour or so, then had an hour on GTA 5. No issues, boost stayed at constant 1480mhz.
Temps circa 60~62'c with fan set at 40% (loudest I can bare after the Accelero xtreme 3 I had on my 970)

Will try 1500mhz and beyond 2mrw.

    Nice card.

Grats at your purchase, but certainly you're right, with your 970 I would have waited for the 980Ti coming around in a few weeks.

But what should I say, I just put the waterblocks on my two 980s yesterday ;)

Pretty happy with the card after a few days of testing.
Can easliy hit 1500/8000mhz with no voltage, so its at least as good a clocker as my MSI 970 was.
    No coil whine as well.

    Here is some 3dmark benchies

    1500/8000mhz
Fire Strike 13611, Graphics Score 16250, Physics Score 12456, Combined Score 6548

    1480/8000mhz
Fire Strike 13571, Graphics Score 16219, Physics Score 12529, Combined Score 6464

1480/7950mhz - Dropped memory OC here to see effect (compare with 1480/8000 above)
Fire Strike 13432, Graphics Score 16021, Physics Score 12493, Combined Score 6400

GTX 970 1480/8000mhz - For clock for clock comparison with 980 same clocks (2 above)
Fire Strike 11601, Graphics Score 13732, Physics Score 12501, Combined Score 5107

Think I will just settle on 1500/8000mhz for now with no voltage.
Settings used via inspector to give this are: Base clock offset + 95, Mem clock offset +495, Power/Temp Target 124%, Fan fixed 40%.
Temps 60'c ish whilst benchmarking, saw 68'c peak during a few hours of GTA 5.

Now just have to pray the 980ti gets release within next 87days so I can use eVGA step up :)

Decent card, also one of the highest ASICs I've read so far! Grats on your chip ;)

I still don't think it will be around before the 390X. And that card will most likely not be around until July, August.
