Intel Will Launch Two LGA1150 Broadwell CPUs with 65W TDP

So... we are getting a new socket? 1364?

 

BGA socket means that they will be permanently locked. Think of it like Laptop CPU's being soldered on the motherboard.

Seems like those will be for OEM manufacterers.

 

I wonder how these will stack up against current Haswells. Lower base clocks and lower cache makes me think not so well.

 

Only 6MB L3 cache? Seems kinda low for a 8threaded cpu..

 

Yeah. I don't think there will be much Broadwell CPUs for desktop... (cause of tick-tock hiccup or something)

Like Haswell, Skylake should have rich desktop CPU lineup.

 

I'm not even considering upgrading my CPU yet. The improvements in CPU speed have been rather small lately. I hope that AMD manages to make Zen awesome.

 

Any chance that broadwell may work on z87 chipset assuming it's the same socket ???

 

Well afaik, it's not officially supported, only Z97 is 'guaranteed' to go with Broadwell. You never know what the vendors do with their BIOSs though, and I'm certainly not up to date on that one (not owning a 1150/Z87 platform).

Broadwell is nice, but I guess it will really get interesting with Skylake, as it will bring new features to the 'mainstream' platforms.

Its BGA and I'm pretty sure its not a new one.

 

I've lost track of which sockets are "new" and which are old now along with being unable to tell the difference between which are new i7/i5 CPU's and which were last gen i7/i5 CPU's.

Just wish Intel would remove that digit from the thing they sit on and get Skylake out already. My X58 setup is as old as the average COD player now :bawl:.

 

x58 for life! no not really i just have seen point in upgrading yet Swtor is the only game that runs like trash that i have and swtor runs like trash on alot more power full pc then mine to boot. so i not upgrade my pc solo for that one game.

Same here. With each intel CPU release, I check what the new platform offers and then decide: "nope; keeping my old rig". The only heavily CPU-bound game that I play is Diablo 3, but I'm not going to replace whole system for a few fps in one poorly optimized game.

Nonetheless, it's good that they've shown some unlocked quad cores. In other case it would get a bit boring.

If Skylake platform gives substantial performance boost, and USB 3.1 and new storage connectors become a norm, then I might upgrade.

 

Pretty much the same here with Final Fantasy XIV being the most demanding game I play I haven't got the drive to upgrade. Saying that, having to dismantle my water loop to do so is a good way to make me really consider upgrades since I hate doing it .
