Why in the world would you want a driver newer than 14.4 on such an old card? It's almost a certainty that you will get no benefit at all from a newer driver since they have moved on to optimizing the newer cards and the older ones have already been optimized as much as possible. If 14.4, or even 13.4, works, then stick with it.

Compatibility, for one. Often, company A makes driver. Company B's driver doesn't like it. So B fixes it. Many other reasons. Latest usually almost always really is greatest.

The new drivers finally fixed Assassins Creed Unity for me. At least I can finally play it with my 8970m. So thats good.

Which is the controller? AMDMAtt spoke about a "scaler", that apparently is an OEM decision. OEMs like Sapphire for example have the SAME cards simply rebranded and with a new BIOS.

NVIDIA is giving DSR to cards that are six f*cking years old. You could even do "VSR" with ANY card using the fake resolution method that stopped working because AMD changed the way Catalyst works.

    I call complete b*ll****.

as mentioned, these are no better or worse that 14.12

the 15.2 for windows 10 on the other hand gains 10+ fps and 500 points more in skydiver bench

    firestrike crashed though lol

The amount of crying in this thread is deafening.. There is a reason its not in there and it has been given. And yes Nvidia put it into earlier generations of cards. It is what it is and all the whining isn't going to change it since you see an AMD rep responding in this thread. When you bought the card it wasn't a feature of it and it still isn't. They did nothing wrong or deceptive.

    @AMDMatt

280/X getting VSR and leaving 7950/7970 without it because of

sounds unconvincing at best, plain wrong more likely.
Missing hardware, ie. scaler argument, had already been used when leaving bunch of GCN cards without VSR.
Now all of a sudden 280/X scaler is capable.

What's so hard about rendering at higher res and shrinking it down to monitor resolution, that it needs a dedicated hw.
Surely it can be done in software (with already existing hw).
GTS 450, R9 280X being "capable", and 7970 not capable... very strange
Maybe double check with your team ;)

What do people not understand that AMD has had massive restructuring and is not focusing on products from years back(greatly reduced budgets anyone?)? Nor has the staff now to do so. Nvidia has had their own issued in the past with drivers.. Anyone remember the Vista rollout and no official dx10 drivers from NVidia for months after its release? Things happen and sometimes they can boost older cards and sometimes they cant.

Who cares, most of those cards are far to weak to run it. Nvidia even put gt730 in the list, that is a bs.

Your 7970 just like my 280X is 3 years old, stop complaining.

280x is even faster then 285.. Really stupid post.. And about that scaler, its pure bull****. Some 280x are 7970GHz with sticker "280x" so same scaler and everything..
