Im sure your correct but it kinda sucks knowing there's a star swarm version and an asteroids app that does use dx12 but they wont let us play with them. Be nice if those would get leaked

Yeah it still stinks no matter what you do with it. It's better than it was but still not acceptable. I just installed the latest Classic Shell and I have a Win 7 Start Menu with all functionality.
Nvm in this build they phased out the old start menu with registry tweak so your only hope is classicshell. The new one takes up over 1/4 of my screen.
Yea, I tried StartIsBack on this build and although it installed, it didn't do anything else, didn't run at all Classic Shell worked fine Hope SIB gets updated though, that's my preferred replacement
Yeah it was my Go-to for 8.1 because its integrated into windows. Classic shell as a process lags on startup sometimes.
Yea, there's no extra process running on my 8.1 install for StartIsBack It has a 30 day trial, give it a try
I have to get around to trying the Tech build of 10 which i have not yet. im hoping MS learns from there mistake and just give us a function starmenu back in win 10, but after the last few techbuild where the messed that up again according to people around here, i not so hopefull. is the Charm menu off to right side of the desktop when you mouse there still there or even disableable?
With Windows 10 TP there is no Charms bar at all in Desktop mode (default for desktop/K&M users), no hot corners or anything, just a stupid start menu that looks like a small start screen BTW StartIsBack doesn't work on the latest Windows 10 builds - but works flawlessly on 8.1, and allows you to disable all Metro cr4p in settings giving you back a nice Windows 7 style desktop
That's my plan too - Ive given them my thoughts on the new start menu via the Insiders report tool, but unless the majority are doing the same I don't expect much change, they seem to be dead set on forcing Metro apps on desktop users
"apps" are the future. Most users want things as simple as possible. That's why ChromeOS is slowly starting to gain traction.
Im on a completely different view point, I don't think apps have any place on a desktop tbh, at least not in the state they are in atm, they seem far too basic and gimmicky, they remind me of miniclip browser games, they're great for tablets and smartphones, but on a desktop with a K&M.... I just want a normal PC with a normal desktop, with real applications and real games that run on the desktop I can't stand these full screen HTML5 (or whatever they are coded in) style apps and UI (Metro) on a desktop
because pc and windows dont already have "apps" MS just wants something they have control of so the charge people more then the cost of the OS.. Capitalism at its best right there
