Unless Samsung fixes all their software problems I'll never switch to it. I owned the Note 4 for about 3 weeks before returning it. Samsung's bloat, even reduced via xposed is insane.
Rooted my S5 and installed Cyanogenmod 12 and google apps apk My phone has ZERO bloatware from Samsung, my battery lasts around 25% longer now, the performance is better, RAM usage is about 35% lower. I also get updates every single day from the Cyanogenmod dev team in the form of NIGHTLY builds which take no longer than 30 seconds to install and all bring fixes and performance improvements.
Yeah but how long before the root + CM12 was even available on the S5? I bought the Note 4 about a month after it launched and had it for 3 weeks. There was a completely broken CM12 build available but that was about it (CM11 wasn't any better either) -- nearly 2 months after the device came out. Even now I don't think they have the stylus or anything working to a useful degree. Now with the S6 it's going to be even more difficult, S5/Note 4 (For US/International) for CM are using the Qualcomm CAF. The S6 is only running a Exynos which so far has had extremely terrible support from the modding community. Hopefully since Samsung is by far the largest seller outside of China it will push devs to support it -- but it's going to be a lot longer then the qualcomm variants of past. Idk, I'm running a OnePlus atm with CM12 and out of the Note 4 both Stock/CM12 build I used for it and the Nexus 6 the OnePlus is the better phone. The Nexus 6 was awful though, imo.
Ever since I got the Lollipop upgrade on my S5 I was thinking about doing the same thing, switching to CM12. Kitkat touchwiz was not the most beautiful thing, but the Lollipop version just looks so god damn bad. White + cyan theme. Who the hell made that call? But as I read, CM12 doesn't support some of S5's hardware features like heartrate sensor and fingerprint scanner. Heart rate sensor, I can live without. But no fingerprint scanner is kind of a deal breaker to me. I truly think it's the best unlocking technique. It's like a swipe but it just works for you. Not to mention that in Lollipop the sensor is far more accurate as I've noticed. Can you confirm this? You cannot use the fingerprint scanner on CM12, no?
The OnePlus is an excellent phone just a shame their customer support is horrendous and their owner is a total d*ckhead when it comes to the community. Yep I can only use Swipe, Pattern, PIN, and Password. You do know that the fingerprint scanner can be fooled very easily by stretching cling film over your finger and it still unlocks the phone
That may be true, but it's still more secure than swiping. I just can't get myself to enter a password/pin every time I want something from my phone.
True, lol, but I can bet you Samsung will release an S6 Mini edition for girls or for those who want a small/normal sized phone... I mean, how many current galaxy phones are there? So many I forgot. They range from around 4'' to just under 6'' .
As an owner of an S5, which was too much like the S4, which was too much like the S3, etc... yawwwwnnnn. I bet it's still made out of cheapass plastic.
That cheapass plastic made the s1 retardedly resilient. Plastic is more resilient in the long run and it does have the added benefit of being softer. This can arguably have an impact in protecting your screen when you drop your phone. On the other side of the ring, aluminum feels better but doesn't necessarily make your phone easier to handle. It's all about personal taste. I tend to keep my phones for a long time, I've had my S1 for 5 years. Makes sense as to why I would prefer plastic phones. Also I don't understand why there's so much bitching about the Galaxy S phones being similar, when other manufacturers are doing the exact thing.
