I'm not denying anything, I'm simply trying to keep things sane and in perspective.
The results posted by users here and on other forums support what has said about DWM affecting the benchmarks.

This has been quite witchhunt tho imho, there prob wouldn't be an issue for most people had someone not decided there was a issue after seeing vram usage.
Would anybody even have noticed if it hadn't been hyped up on various forums?

Not going to happen. These cards do in fact have 256bit memory buses so to sticky a post claiming otherwise would be supporting false information and would do nothing but discredit this forum.

    Okay....so........I wonder why Nvidia worded this way ;
"We understand there have been some questions about how the GTX 970 will perform when it accesses the 0.5GB memory segment. The best way to test that is to look at game performance. Compare a GTX 980 to a 970 on a game that uses less than 3.5GB. Then turn up the settings so the game needs more than 3.5GB and compare 980 and 970 performance again."

Why did nvidia chose to give us game performance data?
I mean....why not straight away provide the bandwidth detail when accessing the first 3.5gb and remaining 0.5gb?

As long as in-game performance is acceptable, memory bandwidth details really don't mean anything. It doesn't matter if memory bandwidth is 25MiB or 225MiB, if it's not actually resulting in a bottleneck. Unless you're trying to push settings that the card can't handle, it'll perform just fine.

970 not 256 bit as a sticky? Doubtful unless its moved to the vault of fail.

Game performance is what matters - not benchmarks. What they're basically saying is that once you need to access that last .5GB of VRAM, the 970 will do so 1-3% less effectively than the 980.

    Who-frickin'-cares?

Those articles are just clickbait without a link to the actual statement by nvidia.

Then provide a link or stop trolling.

So, basically, it proves that the last 500MB is "slower" than the first 3.5GB and NVidia's statement is inline with what we're seeing.

And when I play BF4, I get no stuttering. My max VRAM use in BF4 is around 3.8GB when I push settings far enough (and encroach on settings the card can't handle anyway)

Skyrim has been the subject of complaints since it's initial release. At this point, it's hardly a good scenario for testing performance. Stuttering has been a constant complaint with the game, regardless of memory usage.

Next question, how will the driver detect when to use the remaining problematic 0.5gb? Per game basis or some heuristic based on VRAM usage?

When I run Shadow of Mordor at 1080p, i get hitching and stuttering once i go above 3600MB.

    Only NVidia can answer that.

Another game with a lot of complaints.

If you're going to play games that have a laundry list of complaints, expect to have the same complaints afterwards. If others are experiencing stuttering, you're likely to experience the same regardless of memory usage.

You're just throwing out accusations with no information to support them. All you do is tell everyone else to use Google. If your intent was not to troll, then you'd post supporting information.

Thus, technically, Nvidia sold us a gpu with effective 208bit width for the first 3.5gb with physical 256bit width memory controller (which is usefull for data stored at GPU L2 cache).

And nvidia actually know about this in first place?
