We review not one but two ASUS GeForce GTX 960 Strix graphics cards, in SLI mode of course. This premium version of the GTX 960 comes with an all silent design, good looks, a factory overclock and ver... SLI review: ASUS GeForce GTX 960 Strix
SLI seems bad at the price it's selling at. I mean the scaling is good, but a quick look on OCUK for pricing tells me that for roughly £70 less I can buy a single 970 and get generally better performance and still have the luxury of not relying on decent SLI support in games. Single card performance doesn't seem terrible either but i'll be honest and take the extra performance AND 2gb of memory on a 970 over one of these. If this was sold at about £120-£140 though it might be a better purchase, the £160 just makes me look at the model above.
Yeah they are starting out at 250 bucks around here as our dollar is low at the moment so 2 would be 500 and I can get a 970 for 410 after rebate of 10 bucks so a no brainer. They would have to perform way better or be way cheaper for this to make sense.
Not impressed at all. Looking at the numbers Guru3D posted my single HD7950 Boost 3GB outperforms a single 960, at 1200P. 2GB and 128-bit memory bus cripples the 960. In a dual card configuration SLI 960s obviously do not scale well at all. In games like Tombraider, Hitman, and Dragon Age: Inquisition my CFX HD7950 (OC'd 1100/1400) sits higher than the GTX 980 and just shy of the R295x2. GPU usage sits at 99% for all three. What's funny is that with my Eyefinity setup, at 6056x1920 I am averaging 35FPS (Ultra settings, MSAAx2) for DA:I. Again, 2GB and 128-bit memory bus cripples the 960. Sorry nVidia, I traded my 2x EVGA 660 Ti 3GB FTW straight up for 2x HIS HD7950 Boost 3GB years ago and haven't looked back. I am quite happy sitting in the top 3% of all tested systems for Firestrike.
Well actually SLI scales quite well with nearly double performance over a single 960. It's still piss poor fps but scaling is actually good.
Forgive my "I told you so" moment. My quotes: In most of the tests in the review they outperform a single 970GTX. From the review: So thank you ---TK---, 4GB on a card such as the 960GTX is FAR from useless these days. It is hilarious to reread the 2 vs 4GB vRAM thread again and in fact any vRAM thread. Man, way to get those closed by screaming: "TROLLS TROLLS, 4GB IS USELESS, TROLLS". The 760GTX and 670GTX 4GB in SLI being discussed there come very close to the performance shown here, which is in fact 970GTX performance and there suddenly nobody doubts that the 4GB, I quote, 'can be fully utilized'. Sjeesh what a bunch of bull
seeing as the 960 will NOT get anywhere near those "good image quality settings" in modern games, even at 1080p, I wouldn't worry. Hell, the card can't even run high settings at a constant 60fps so I wouldn't worry about the lack of vram. More often than not it'll utilize way less than 2gb. Cheers for quoting the review to make you look stupid yet again.
Lol, the 960 can't even run 60fps in most games at 1080p, it's clear from the review. Ok, at 1200p. In many games it doesn't even hit 50fps, some games don't even reach 40fps. I wonder how exactly the extra 2gb vram would help in this scenario. The only thing that can save this card is a £50 price drop, then it would make sense in some low end gaming rigs. ^ Feel free to hand out infractions.
