This game is boss in co-op. Just a shame it only supports 2 players. I get a reasonable but not astounding framerate using the Very High preset.

Crafting would make more sense in a game that takes place in the year 1250, but in a modern situation, why can't I can buy a new wallet or a bag? I can buy a silencer for a machinegun out of a coat closet but not a backpack?

It's all fluff and gets old about half way through. It's entertaining to begin with if you haven't played FC3 in a while or are totally new to the franchise, but it becomes a real grind. I lost interest in most of that stuff, didn't really bother with the arena fights, didn't go out of my way to look for journals or masks and am glad I didn't because there don't appear any awards other than Ubisoft Uplay achievements and maybe a weapon from the arena. At about 60% I just blasted through the rest of the campaign.

Fallout 3 was an incredibly busy game and it felt overwhelming at first with all the map locations etc, but the gameplay and premise are cool, and even though there is limited variety in an action game (without adding a bunch of crap like in-game ping pong or a pool table) I just had more fun going around and doing side missions than in FC3/4. Graphics were pretty poor even when it came out, and it had so many glitches but still.

Looting in STALKER and Fallout was fun because they were usable inventory items. Picking up crack pipes and porn then just selling it back to the coat closet for easy money is pretty dull.

Way back in System Shock 2, yeah it was linear, but you could still go back to different parts of the ship to pick up periodic table elements to research the different enemies......then once you do that, you can do more damage to them...there is a gameplay reward for looking around.

All of the pothead, CIA guy, Longinus, Hurk missions.....none of them give you anything other than money and XP, which you really don't need. The combat perks are ok and the health perks are useful, but most of the blue upgrades in FC4 are just syringe related and I hardly used those. I didn't really use the takedowns either.

It just seems to be very difficult to make a true open world environment where you can go around and do side missions and at the same time have them mean something in game. Driving around in FC4 is pretty boring and I took advantage of the fast travel whenever possible, but without the random karma events or the supply truck/pagan's wrath convoys, the forced driving with no fast travel would be even more of a grind. But you get to a point when it just seems so stupid pulling over only to whip out the repair tool and fix a broken down car and then get 2000 and leave....or shooting some animal, or saving the hostage, or killing the courier, etc.

I have not much idea of technology as most of you but I have an exquisite eye for knowing when my performance is better or worse, is not whether it will be by the update 1.07 or that come from windows 8.1 and I think the performance in games is much worse than windows 7

I am using 8.1x64 as well and I did not experience all the problems that others had on the UBI forums when FC4 was released...The last game I played on Windows 7 was Bioshock Infinite...And that game would never run slow for me no matter what settings I used (didn't have DSR back then) Now that I think about it I don't have any games that I currently play on my 8.1 system that were ever any issue, even heavily modified ones like fallout 3/NV 8.1 seems pretty good for gaming from what I experienced.
Did you play with 1.6.0? Or you only just started now? Or you only just installed 8.1? Confused :3eyes: It's just they state that no changes were made with 1.7.0, that's all.

So 1.6 broke saves if Karma level was L.6 ?

And they have released 1.7 with no fixes and just DLC

So Im guessing that the 1.6 bug is still valid?

Im getting close to Karma Level 6, and don't fancy losing my saves

I think Windows 8.1 operating system is faster than Windows 7, but when playing've seen a worse performance in games've even had problems with resolution 59.94 hz, so I went back to Windows 7 and everything is fine now, and I tell you I'm not very good with computer science, lol.

You could choose to not use online/cloud storage and manually backup your save and see if yours does it. I think I am max on karma and I have never had an issue with saves (as in going to the safehouse and using the store to auto save/sleep or pause menu-save, however save & quit will crash my game every time)

Yea might give that a shot, it syncs the offline saves to the cloud each start/stop of the game anyway, I can save and quit and it quits fine, no crashing though

It is supposed to go to the main menu screen, but mine only ever done that 2 maybe 3 times, ever since (even after uninstalling/reinstalling) it will CTD after the progress bar reaches about half way and act like nothing happened lol

Thanks for your thoughts. I think what you said is the general feeling I have had with both 3 and now 4 but couldn't put my finger on it at first. These latest renditions of Far Cry appear to be an experiment of sorts by the company to inject open world type experiences into the game. But I think the result is missing the target somehow.

Having tons of things to do amid the mission related activities tends to blur your sense of purpose while playing. If the result ends up making you feel like you just landed in a playground and there are lots things to explore then I think they need to polish this concept further. It may have something to do with what people think "open world" means in a game. For me it means I can do what I need to do in a time and order of my own choosing. As it stands now I think a lot of the side-show stuff in Far Cry is there to somehow tie the game to the online community for bragging rights and to entice you to buy DL content.

i used to make a back-up of my save folders after each session when playing this, i wouldn't worry about updating game, i done it many times and kept same save throughout.

    Well the DLC is pap.

I liked the main story but this Escape From Durgesh thing is just crap.
Wish I'd looked into the season pass more before buying it now.

Thats a user issue right there. Its impossible for games to run slower on windows 8.1 with all of the performance enhancements and lower overhead of background services compared to Win7.

Yeah I think the same, was not too sure what that person meant at first lol

When/where or how do you load the DLC? I have it...not played in a while, but I was expecting to see the map-marker after it updated, but I could not notice anything different on the map?:3eyes:

I never launched it myself (not finished with the main game yet), but I can see that the DLC is launched through the main menu, on the bottom of the right column.

Anyone came across this bug where certain objects in the game just won't load in?

Does not happen often and I can't seem to replicate it at all just random. As soon as I exit this safe room the objects outside load in fine and if I go back into the safe room the objects in the safe room also load back in. Only seen this happen after patch 1.7

  17. For the last week or so it's taking me about 30 seconds to load into the game. Before that it was maybe 3 seconds...pretty much instantly. Has anyone else had this problem?

At around 80-90 percent loading it just hangs for like 15-20 seconds.

And yes, it's installed on a EVO 250.

zero loading issues here mate and I have it installed on my HDD and not my main SSD either. Load times are around 10-12seconds for the first time I enter a game and around 3-5seconds when entering/exiting buildings.

Maybe verify your game files through uplay?

Also try launching uplay in offline mode it could be that the game is trying to connect to their servers and we no their servers suck.

What are people doing who actually enjoy this game? Do you just do the main mission and ignore all the distractions? I can't get "in" the game. I don't feel any immersion at all. After about 10 minutes or so of witnessing so much stupidity I exit out.

    Here's an example....

I tried one of the Golden Path missions where you have to collect and deliver supplies. I have no idea what the terrain is since I'm brand new to the area. I have to drive an ATV which is sliding all over the place. I finally give that up and walk. Then I'm attacked by an endless parade of dogs and wolves. I finally retrieve one package, pick some flowers, search the usual loot boxes laying everywhere, kill some more dogs, drive a new ATV to the next location and rinse and repeat. At last I have the stuff and now I must drive to the delivery site within 90 seconds which is next to impossible.

I thought I was involved in an important life or death struggle against Pagan Min! How does all the stuff I went through above factor in to the main story line?

    This game is ridiculous.

But from this thread I think most people are spending most of their time troubleshooting their installation. Maybe that's the fun FC4 delivers. Who knows.
