GTX 970 Owners Thread

It doesn't void the warranty if you remove it. Kind of defeats the purpose of having the sticker there in the first place. If the card ever has to send it in and they notice it's been removed, they will inspect the card for visual damage.

 

edit: found out when checking fans that I had put those 2x120mm intake fans wrong way so they were exhausting...
New testing soon!

So using new case now and checked so all GPU fans spin etc and they do.
So now my case have 1x140mm exhaust and 1x140mm(front) + 2x120mm(1 front and 1 bottom) intakes.

Then tried 20min for Shadow of mordor and here is result, dunno if good...

Default clocks, power limit at 110%, auto fan at gpu, max fans at case(800-1000rpm).

How does that look? I think it should not get that how with those fans and default clocks.
Should I try with just custom fan profile or go and try to change that paste from GPU.
Or should I try to add less intake and more exhaust?

 

Swapping the card with the higher ASIC value to the top SLI position dropped the max temp by about 5C. The bottom card now maxes out about 1-2C lower than the top one (it was about 10C less). I assume this is normal.

 

A bit of update, temps still too high when I compare to other people.

I wonder if Arctic Cooling MX-4 will be fine for my gpu? Used that for cpu so still have that left.
I mean sure its fine but is it better/worse/same than default paste there is now in that gpu?

I think your temp difference at load is better than normal. Are your cards the blower type or twin fans?

 

They are the blower type. As single cards they seem to run more hot than aftermarket cooling, but they cap out at max load around 68-70C.

 

Yeah its easy.
I had to do it for my MSI Gaming when all of a sudden temps got higher than they had been before. GPU must have become unseated.

Reseating and applying new TIM, (MX-4) solved the problem.

5 minute job.

 

managed to push the core to +130 (boost to 1522) so far stable in 3dmark, fc4 n warframe,the memory doesnt like to go much above +200 without crashing the driver

 

Atm problem is not doing that but WHAT IF problem is like in those heat pipes or somewhere else than paste?
If I go and void warranty and put new paste and it doesnt fix problem then I cant even RMA it anymore.
How high chance there is or how can I see if problem is somewhere else than in paste?
I hate that I dont have good memory to remember how was my cards temp when I got it but I THINK that they were fine and not so high like now so then it must be something with paste?

 

Like I already said @ muro, RMA would be the safest option in my opinion.

 

I know but that will take like minimum 2 weeks to get new and I cant be that long without pc.
Just trying to find some way to fix this or something. But cant find any info what temps I had at start but I think they were not so high like they are now.
I remember fans never were loud before so it must have not been high temps.
Now temps go high and fan starts to shout.

Just trying to figure could anything happen between that time to anything else than paste?
I never dropped my gfx card or anything so that anything could happen to heatpipes or anything.

Got the same results as they did on techpowerup.
GPU Boosts to 1429 Mhz
Memory is at 3980 Mhz



Didn't touch the voltage yet.
Anyone With ASUS STRIX getting better results?

 

@FDisk your GPU core is probably boosting higher than that
After running a benchmark or game, check out the sensor tab for the measured speeds.

You are correct, I've seen it go up to 1548 Mhz.

Why is your pixel fillrate so low?
You should be getting at least 80 GPixel/s
btw, I can do +176Mhz on Core without increasing voltage with the same card. You can probably do that to.

 

It also says his chip has 0 transistors and is running on a 1.1 spec PCI-E slot.
