Okay then, going forward I will always be surprised when new gen xx104 has less cores than old gen xx110.

welp it's only been a couple days but i'm happy with my G1 970. First, the card itself looks impressive as hell and feels like a solid chunk of tech. Second, it plays everything I throw at it at stable FPS. Inquisition runs at the 100 fps I want for my monitor (144hz benq but I run it at 100hz for day to day use), Unity and FC4 at about 60-70 fps with everything maxed, The Crew stays hard up against the 60 FPS limiter, etc. Good ****.

Oh yeah, the card doesn't make a damned sound. No coil whine, no nothing. I love sound deadening Corsair cases.

Now having said that, I've been looking into SLI and what I might want to do moving forward. I think I probably bought the wrong card for that? It seems like you want more of a reference design that blows air out the back of the case, and if that's the case I could probably convince myself to splurge on a pair of 980s. I DONT KNOW.

I do have the second massive fan from my Noctua DH15 mounted on the side of my case blowing air on the GPU area so it might not be too much of an issue. Anyone have thoughts?

Dont know about that but I lost a couple thousand or so gpu score points in drivers post maxwell, pre maxwell had a higher gpu score, think both 3d mark 11 and firestrike. dont really care about futuremark scores tbh but games are a different story. I would not put it past them tbh, but it might be more mature drivers for maxwell, although the 750 and 750ti have been out quite a while.

Well we all know the 3dmark scores are very gimmicky with special tweaks made to make the latest GPU drivers get better scores. My guess is there's somekinda hidden "something" that was being disabled/bypassed by the gpu on the old drivers for the 700 series which now isn't need on the 900 series so they disabled it, or something to that effect anyway.

900series sometimes wins because of higher Pixel fillrate, it helps a lot by higher resolutions or where pixel fillrate matters the most.
I noticed over few gpu generations that Crysis1 really likes higher pixel fillrate no matter the reso.. I guess that extra 20-30 gpixel/s and +16rops (vs GK110) kinda removes 256bit bus limit, although it doesn't work all the time like 8xMSAA, e.g. Vally benchmark.
Same thing by AMD Thonga? 285x.. I remember JustCause2 example, it ran worse or around the same as 280x or even 270x.

    EDIT:
Or we can see now, just architecture difference benchmark @ Vally,. Extreme quality @ HD, but with 4xmsaa,
Lets say default factory boost clocks.:nerd:

xaudiox, you have around gpu speeds perf. @ stock boost, I got ~62fps avg.

    now with 4xmsaa

How does a GTX970 @ 1076Mhz stack up? With 0 boost, 0 OC, just locked 1076Mhz. I think this will require a custom bios, but still very interesting.

eh, cards are designed with this boost these days. I don't think mine has ever gone bellow the boost speed for anything while gaming. What would the point be of running a card at 1k when i'd say ~half the cards out there are able to run 24/7 at 1500 even.

yeah mine runs at 1550 turbo core and 8020 memory no problems, and default speeds seems to change by which ever card you get ;)

so I will put up overclocked scores, as lets face it, its one of the 900 series strong points (among many others), good overclocking :)

The more I here about Unigine Valley though not being a good test of the 900 series the more I wonder the value of the test anyway?

    anyway here we go:

score 2993 fps 71.5 extreme single card
score 3812 fps 91.1 custom X4 AA single card

score 5357 fps 128.0 extreme sli
score 6256 fps 149.5 custom X4 AA sli

for what its worth lol ;)

Why not stock boost:p, Kepler also likes to OC and 3dmarks obviously likes higher pixelfillrate, Vally not so much.:nerd:

    Anyway, tnx for testing.

what do you call "stock", my MSI gaming has higher stock clock than some, and lower clock than others, so that's why i put my normal clock scores ;)

Ladies and gents, it has happened. I have secured my G1 Gaming.

No coil whine, even if its there, my fans damp the noise pretty much. I'm thinking all these coil whine issues are somewhat PSU related maybe, but enough of that.

This thing boosts to 1522mhz (+130Mhz Core), on the stock voltage, with nowhere near the TDP limit! Running +245Mhz ATM on the memory. I saw a little white dots on the screen, so probably will drop the OCs a bit. And my idle temp was 22c (unless the sensory is crazy), it is winter here as well. Might mod the bios for lower fan speeds, for longer fan life. Max temp was 54c in AC Unity. Silky smooth 60fps. Aww man, this 970 so good. And for some reason my vram usage in unity is 2.5~2.7Gb only.

Also my bios says 84.04.28.00.4C [Modified], wonder what thats about. my idle fan speed is an earth shattering 1564RPM. I think I'll make the curve 10% to 34%, this thing is plenty cool.

Also my card had a teeny bit sag. That annoyed me SO much. but oh well, I worked around it. I gave the card hugs and kisses and we lived happily ever after.
