GTX 970 Owners Thread

Just got my Gigabyte Gaming 970. Ordering another as I speak!

So far I've run it with Shadow of Mordor:

-NEVER went above 58*C(and this game runs a constant 99% usage)
-NEVER dropped below 60 fps on ULTRA settings(freaking amazing)
-NO coil whine
-RAM usage was at 3.5-3.6GB constant
-These were stock clocks with memory at 7010 and my card came running out of the box at 1405 core which I thought was weird, but hey, I ain't complaining!

Ran 3Dmark Fire Extreme and it hit 10,350 stock speeds.

Update:
OC'd to 1600 core and 7800 memory. I have to do more testing to find the perfect voltages but I ran Heaven and it did well.

I backed down to these specs and ran both basic and extreme tests:

1550 core; 7600 memory

Basic: 26,054 with graphics score at 41,411
Extreme:11,104 with graphics score at 13,402

FC4 settings on Nvidia everything maxed out never dropped below 45fps.

The strange thing is that 0mV or +87mV doesn't affect the oc performance. Have it or not is the same thing. It will not allow me to increase core/memory. I'm using Afterburner to tune oc

I'm able to pass Furmark and Firestrike with +150 core but the nvidia drivers hangs in games. :bang:

As a newbie what I don't understand is why I have default Core clock@1288 and in-game it goes even @1202? The minimum should be as I set it @1288 right? The same goes to boost@1439 when in-game up to 1519. Afterburner purpose is to set the boundaries. All in all, I'm worrying if the card is ok.

Should I worry or I was so unlucky in the lottery?

 

Hi every1 im in babyyy!!!!! (Little bit tipsy) MSI GTX 970 Gaming ! I was a wreck to decide between Gigabyte or MSI finally drove a 60km to teh shop and got one, no complaints at all. 3dmark firestrike i7 2600k 4ghz Physics Score:10231 - Graphics Score: 12033

Edit: That's a temp limit at 80c and 110% power limit nothing else 1392mhz boost no overclock other than that.

I wouldn't worry, like I said, some cards, (I'm not sure if it's a bios setting or what it may be), just do what they want with boost. You need to check the load on the card when it cycles down past the base clock. In other words, add the GPU load to the Afterburner on screen display. If your card is clocking down lower than what you have it set at and the GPU load isn't at 99% then it's fine. If the GPU load is at 99% and it's still clocking down then I'd worry-first check temps cause it will clock down if over heating but if it's still doing it then it's more likely software related.

 

In AC Unity I had a huge fps drop for 4-5 secs (while in fight). I Alt-tabbed to check Afterburner.

At those 4-5 secs, I felt on
GPU usage from 99% to 46%
power from 77% to 64%
voltage from 1.262v to 1.243 (I have force constant voltage)
OV max limit from 1 to 0 (no idea what is this)
and the most strange of all...core clock didn't drop!

temps are 60C

 

About the clocks of this GPU, i´m having a "hard" time understanding them.

My MSI is rated with factory clocks of 1114MHz (normal) to 1253MHz (boost) but my card only seems to know 2 clock speeds, 135MHz on desktop (idle) and 1328.7MHz while gaming (boost) with an average TDP of 95%, without any changes from my part. Is this normal??? I´m asking because it´s the first time i´ve used a card with boost.

Apart from that, im loving my card! Really silent and with a great performance!

 

Yes, it's normal. The clocks MSI provided are the guaranteed minimum boost clocks. Usually the card boosts higher.

 

Settled on +80 core while using +320 mem, as +80 was more stable on stock voltage for me. Which is 1447 boost with the max boost of 1500. While 100 was doing max boosts of 1550 which didn't work. So I had to work my way down til I got it stable.

Nah I got mine from newegg, Evga didn't have any in stock. I kind of wished evga had stock as I could had gotten Borderlands P-S.

I thought the extra label he was referring to was your GPU FTW/w monitor.

 

This isn't a GPU problem. AC unity has been having these issues since release with the PC. It's constantly dropping fps randomly during game play. If this happens in another game, let us know.

 

I see where you're at, sorry man! It was the basic and the fire strike, not the extreme.

I think he was saying that his 970 FTW had a extra label do to his having a blackplate on it. Unless he really thought my monitor info was a actually label.

I run at 1330Mhz (1535Mhz turbo) core and 2005Mhz mem set in MSI afterburner

Scores a little off since one was done on an i7 2600K @4.5GHz and the new one is done on an i7 4770K @4.2GHz so may need to look at the GPU score not the overall. The date is off by months as well as driver versions so its just a first install bench.
