Replacing Aging HD5850. PCIE 2.0 Suggestions?

    RX 6800
    update the bios and see if that changes it.
    possibly upgrade to the 6 series or nvidia 5 series

    PCI-E 3.0 cards will just run at PCI-E 2.0 - same with almost all AMD boards / new GPUs combos

    GTX970/R9 290 would be my choice

    Just get any cheap newish card out there. a regular 750 will be an upgrade

    From what I can tell, Ive got bios at last release. I tried several different 750ti's and could get none of them to work...

    *Clifs...computer fails to boot, and every once in awhile it will boot to desktop then crash. Tried different drivers, the other slot, etc. and nada.

    Well, you never tried a clean os install according to those :)

    fail to reach desktop or fail to boot?

    I did, just failed to post and pretty much gave up for the time being

    Fails to reach desktop. Often it would restart and bring me to the option to start in normal windows mode, safe mode, etc.

    I would definitively try a clean install if I were you.

    Do you guys suggest a full-blown, have to reinstall everything afterwards, form of re-installing windows?
