HBAO+ Compatibility Flags Thread

    IMO it makes no sense running in DX10 mode for such an extremely subtle AO effect, when you can get perfect SGSSAA (0x000010C1) and HBAO+ (0x00000031) in FC2 DX9 ;)

    Ok cool thanks for dx10 flag, I used 0x000A002D and it had similar effect to yours, but could tell :)



    @ Mr.Bonk

    I had a working RE6 flag once, but forgot to import profile and now idk which line worked, I tested @ RE4 characters part of the game.. I remember it wasn't soo visible outside, although it rendered on both characters & internal walls.

    Maybe it had just a tiny little bit of fog bleeding but very minimal, this is how I found it applied to other stuff not just main character

    Can you use 4k as a regular driver downsampling resolution?

    Looking at it, it's hard to tell without on/off comparisons.

    Trying this myself and not seeing anything working with an on/off comparison

    Also: Yes it had far too many numerous issues, and some issues that grew with resolution.

    Believe me when I say I literally tried every logical flag combination possible.
    All in the driver list, and just as many custom flags.

    The issues are just too unacceptable.

    Those are all flags that don't function within DX9, so sadly they wouldn't work.

    Never mind, you were right in the first place.

    I got fooled by prebaked lighting on the 7th Ark level and prebaked AO on lightnings model, where her jacket meets the sweater thing.

    I didn't pay much attention to it and when i saw it i just guessed it's HBAO since game doesn't seem to use AO by default at all.
    I guess that Square did some cheap eye foolery by just baking AO into the texture in some cases.

    Sorry for making a ruckus for nothing.

    It's a DX11 game so I doubt it.

    Not impossible.

    But also the game is strange, it runs some kind of DX11 wrapper for OGL or something.. but as above shows, it does work>

    Nope. Like I said, I tried literally every flag in the driver and many many many others.

    I tried them all both in the benchmark and the retail game. Behavior is different between the two as well.

    Either the effect isn't being applied but there is a performance hit, or the game is ganked down to like 19FPS with nothing applied, or there are severe issues with it bleeding in cutscenes or popping on and off or severe fogging/clouding with banding. Or it not working in scripted events, but popping back on when control is given back, or etc.

    Then there is the fact, that the HDR is ultra low resolution, so using SGSSAA is muddied up without some potential downsampling. But then HBAO+ often looks worse when downsampling.

    Re-Revelations suffers the same issues with HDR to a lesser extent, but the game's max resolution is 1440p.


    Also the game's lighting is really awkward, lighting conditions are almost baked in and pop-in change with some movement or camera angle change,
    strange concessions they made moving to deferred with this game.

    The HDR in old forward rendered MTFramework games was a lot better.

    MrBonk could you please update the HBAO+ Compatibility Flags list on the first page in this thread,
    as a lot more flags have been discovered until this page 41 that are not on the list.
    Thanks and i appreciate everyone's work on this thread for finding working flags that make our favorite games look better..

    I have updated what has been made into proper posts.

    The only thing missing is TEW. Everything else that has needed to be changed. Has.

    Yes, I think it is critical that we keep a high standard in this thread.
    Thorough testing and proper screenshot evidence is needed for all games ;)

    Otherwise this thread will fall apart and become completely unmanageable, just like the Guru3D AA thread did a long time ago.

    Notes: This flag works with 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios (didn't tested 21:9), with or without letterbox fix, with more or less FOV.
    IMO, only worth using in combination with Ingame SSAO, since this flag produces a subtle effect. :thumbup:

    I stand corrected. :D

    BTW, Civilization: Beyond Earth and Lords of the Fallen have gotten HBAO+ support in the new drivers.
