    The Evil Within

As can be seen some effects will not work correctly when you switch to a different aspect ratio but it's better than having half the screen covered with black bars.
(The noise overlay on the camera feed is incorrect as is the black screen cover that should be on at the start of that other scene.)

EDIT: While most cvar's outside of the ones Bethesda provided seem to be locked there's also g_fov however it doesn't seem to work even though it can be changed.

EDIT: r_multisamples can also be changed but again I can't see any difference.

EDIT: A comparison of the aspect ratio command at default and at a value that removes the black bars.

I personally like the effect in this game, back in RAGE it (r_skipglare 0/1) mostly controlled the tonemapping or color hue in areas along with some of the light effects.
(Turning it off helped with indoor areas being tinted green/purple.)

Here however it also controls the noise filter and depth of field along with the above light effects and color hue.
(Or rather those effects are tied to this one so disabling it turns off all of them.)

You get cleaner visuals with it disabled but it's a important part of how the game was envisioned to look or how to say, would be nice if some of the effects were a bit separated but it's not possible with how locked down the console commands currently are. (Can't change the depth of field effect or the noise filter effect directly so it's all on or all off via this.)

For a horror game I just don't feel any fear or anxiety and I usually have problems with horror games.
(Though the game starts with more action than survival too.)

The game itself is enjoyable and you can use both direct force or stealth to get through the various areas alive, haven't noticed any real QTE events either aside from pressing spacebar rapidly to open certain objects while being chased.

Great atmosphere even with the somewhat blurry textures and the forced aspect ratio, which I find is very annoying though at least I have not seen any problems from setting the game to 60 FPS instead of 30 yet.
(I think a aspect ratio of around 1.6 is correct for 16:10 displays but the main character takes up most of the screen due to how zoomed in it gets - I just switched his model from displaying in the above images but I didn't use the debug camera.)

Hopefully the Widescreen community can improve this a bit, say a Flawless Widescreen plugin for the game perhaps?
(Would be nice to be able to alter the FOV as well.)

Unsure what I can say about the story since I'm not very far into the game yet, seems like it could be good but they also try to be a bit vague and confusing which could backfire, will see how that works out later in the game I suppose.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] <- I like how this one turned out even though I was basically glued to the window when I tried looking out of it.

Chapter 3 now and the game is getting better and better, more stealth elements now although you can opt for something more aggressive too but ammo is limited as are your means of dispatching these things permanently.
(Shatter their head which means two shots with the pistol - first will split and second will shatter - or burn the body which requires either matches to use when they are down or a torch for a instant kill via a melee attack, anything else and they get back up shortly after being downed.)
