    Need Advice/Explanation for 3Dmark scores

I have an alienware x51 with a pretty solid bunch of components.

    i7 4790 4ghz (turboboost)
EVGA GTX 970 SC (1140mhz idle clock)
    8gigs Samsung ddr3
    2tb HDD
    etc.

My 3dmark Firestrike score sucks. Running at 1366x768. wtf? I am unable to post a link as I am a new member, but I will summarize all seemingly-pertinent info.

    Score: 9295 (!)

    Graphics score: 10687
    Physics score: 10595
    Combined score: 4303

Can anyone help me out with this? This card seems to crush the games I throw at it, but it really doesn't impress on 3dmark, and the physics test barely got above 20fps.

I have read that lower-clocked models have scored higher.

    This is disheartening. Please advise.

My build is using the same processor. Have just got my second MSI GTX 970 this morning and decided to try out a 28 inch 4K samsung monitor.

Will be installing the 2nd card maybe tonight or tomorrow. So I will post details on how 4K runs then.

I did find a vid on youtube this morning that showed playable fps on 2 x 970 SLI at base clocks in 4K. Would post link but currently on my phone. The bench was also done using a processor that only allowed one card x16 and the second x8.

Our 40 x PCIe will give better performance.

Can't wait to get home and set it up.

I wonder if your 330w power supply is causing an issue. Minimum spec for one of my cards is 500w.

    Your graphics score appears low.

Finally got around to playing Elite a bit tonight using DSR @ 4x and man does this game look stellar.. with one 970 at times it will dip into the 40-50fps range, but with SLI enabled it doesn't leave 60 and with vsync off goes up to 70-80 range.

Its astonoshing how different the game looks compared to a couple weeks back playing at 1080p with asingle 670. Like night and friggin day.

I have got rid, yes. Could not wait in fact. As soon as the ROG Swift came out I preordered one. Best thing I did.

I could not stand the blur on the Qnix no matter what hz you put it too. It is the way of the IPS panel to simply not be fast enough. Now my gaming is COMPLETELY different. Also the input lag is less on the Swift. The colour is more than good enough on the Swift, in fact I would say it's sooooo close to IPS that I don't miss the Qnix for colour either.

I also hated having to 'hack' drivers all the time and try to use .ICC files that sort of make the monitor look better. The swift is great out of the box.

You will not benefit from the 40 lanes of the 5930K over the 28 lanes of the 5820K. The following configurations are theoretically possible on 28 lanes vs. 40 lanes:

    2-way: x16 x16 vs. x16 x8
    3-way: x8 x8 x8 vs. x16 x8 x8 / x8 x8 x8
    4-way: NOT POSSIBLE vs. x8 x8 x8 x8

That is unless the motherboard used includes PLX chips to duplicate lanes at which point you can have 28 lanes, 16 of which are duplicated across slots at the very least.

As far as I'm aware, having a single slot at a higher count of lanes than the others should not make a difference i.e x16 / x8 / x8 should be the same as x8/ x8 / x8 as long as the workload is split equally between the cards (and that's what AFR generally does and aims for).

I am not sure x16 / x8 / x8 is implemented which means that on 3-way, both CPUs should offer exactly the same lane configuration.

Note that the only 4-way card configuration that is possible with a 5820K is AMD CrossFire since AMD allow a card to run on even a PCI-E 2.0 x4 slot while the rest run on PCI-E 3.0 x8, for example. Nvidia does not allow cards to run at x4 in SLi which means you would need at least 32 lanes to run 4 cards in SLi, leaving the 5820K out of the equation.

I would start first by knocking down the CPU to the 5820K if you want to save.

Quick question on G sync , i understand in NV control panel you enable Gsync but what happens for normal desktop , do you still set a refresh rate for that or Gsync works for desktop too .
If it does i would assume its pegged to max (144hz) , so does your 970 still idle down to 135mhz ?

PS: does Asus swift make a 1080 Gsync model like the 1440 one, cause i don't think single card is powerful enough (1440@60+fps in games).
Edit: Just checked they don't, Acer makes one though .

You can pick a refresh rate if you like but you don't have to. I just leave it on 144. Job done. Gsync only works in game.

Got my MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G yesterday. My ASIC score is 82.9%. I'm using +200 on core and +500 on memory, with 110% power and +87mV.

My graphics score for standard Fire Strike benchmark is 13735. The core ran at a stable 1592MHz after that overclock.

So far I'm liking this card a lot. It runs really quiet and performs very well. I will keep testing with more benchmarks.

Installed mine today! God i love it, BF4 is too fast now :D Its too smooth haha. I havent done any OC yet tho.

GLad i went for MSI instead of Gigabyte. Even MSi was a tight fit and had to move hard drives around!

Hi Guys, ive ordered Gtx 970 Gigabyte G1, but im worried, there is lots of complaints on 900 series, like frameskipping..

120hz through DVI's not working, some monitors are not recognized properly(phantom monitor) etc, are u Guys have similar issues ?

    thanks in advance.

    greetings.

Applied the same. Havent got much experience in OC but hopefully it will be okay. How did you chance core voltage to +87mV, mines locked

If you use AB 4.0 go to setting to unlock voltage control and voltage monitoring .

    Many thanks for your advice.
Yeah the 5920K would shave off some more doe for sure.

    So, now I'm awaiting someone to post 3-way 970 results with a 5920K... :)

PS. Looking at a Gigabyte mobo they claim that a 40 lane 3-way rig (5930K) would be capable of a bandwidth of 320GB/s opposed to 256 GB/s with a 28 lane cpu, does this have any practical significance?

Furthermore, does anyone have anything about the advertised 32GB/s bandwidth for M.2 SSD with some of the mobo's?

Made some calc's for fun, from Komplett.Se:

    3xMSI 970 + AX1200i + 5920K + MSI X99-S + 4k monitor + 16GB DDR4 @ 2800 + M.2 480GB +Mech kbd + Mouse + 540D Air

    Roughly €3600

    2xMSI 980 instead - Roughly €3700

    3xMSI 980 - €4350

    4xMSI 970 + 5930K - €4200
    4xMSI 980 + 5930K - €5000

You can get lower and way higher...

Dunno if a AX1200i is enough for 4-way.

With the low tdp of Maxwell you are fine with 4way sli. Think I would be regulated to 3 way sli though with 780ti though. Much higher tdp.
