Valve announced that there are over 100 million active Steam accounts. That's like approaching the population of Mexico right? The press release announcing today's store update also notes that 1,300...

I'm one of them. Mostly because of the Half-Life franchise.

Lots of account details all ripe for plucking by some youthful hacker, no doubt.
100 million accounts is the kind of figure bound to cause some troublemaker to drool profusely. ;)

This. Although I'm surprised Steam didn't get hacked (or has never admitted it) like Sony's database, for instance.

I think valve learned thier lesson about online security when that guy hacked and stole half life 2 from them way back in 2003.

I too have an account with Steam. Games such as Half-Life & Team Fortress inspired me to join. :)

Steam is such a great service, I mean who doesn't love drm?

I really like the way all the games and updates are downloaded as unpacked files making downloads twice as large as they need to be, and how patches replace entire archives instead of small files within the archive making a 25mb patch over 2gb like in supcom 2.

Well, also hackers have been getting better in the last 11 years I guess :)
But yeah, maybe they realised that security is not something little if it comes to online gaming and general computing business. Lessons others seem to have ignored too long.

    I don't like the discovery update at all;
-The new store is filled with unselectable crap like Curators and Queue.
-The news releases and recently updated lists are ridicuslously huge for nothing.
-The forums direct link have been removed from store pages.
-Steam don't show what my friends are playing anymore. :(
    -And the list goes on....

I'm done with the in-app store. For now on Steam is set to open directly in my library.

    Also this; :)

Yes steam forced us to join for the ability to actually use our games, but sometimes people need to be forced into a new distribution model for the better and really, steam is so far the only real solution (next to the likes of GOG) that has worked to reduce piracy somewhat i would think.. along with the like of CDkey sites, of which we should be grateful of Valve not going and blocking the use of keys purchased elsewhere. The day they do, will be the day i feel any of the complaining is justified.

As for the new steam layout, dont really care anymore tbh. I dont go to the store page unless theres a seasonal sale. Steams prices are ridiculous.

I know what a Smurf Is. I just didn't know how it related to Steam.
