Heh, ran clocks at sig which is game stable, was greeted by a shutdown and a bios message from asus surge protection saying PSU failure.. I guess this 1Kw platinum isnt enough.

There's nothing wrong with that score at all, actually.

Hey eclap, I how's the idle fan speed? I'm still wondering which one to get ASUS or MSI. I have ordered ASUS but I can still cancel it easily.

MSI gaming can stop the fans from spinning in idle if left on auto. Temps go up to the 50s if you leave it like that, in my case, anyway. So I have a fan profile set that keeps it sub 35C in idle.

Wonder why some models with short pcb? Could it be lacking anything, ie, less power components, vrm phases, etc?

Is it by default like that? F@ck... Just noticed that actually. Hmm.... I'll try to switch the order to MSI instead. I had really nice experience with their R9 290.

I've got a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 GAMING WindForce coming Monday hopefully if I can sort out the neighbour to take it!

If I had waited until today to buy I'd have saved £20 on an MSI one but I don't know if anyone's made a comparison of the two in detail so I'm not sure if it was a waste of money or not.

Hi guys, I was thinking of buying an Asus Strix 970 but I saw it was powered by only one 8 pin connector, and other models like evga sc acx and msi are powered by 2 connectors. In the review they say that one 8 pin is good for 225 watts of power draw which should be more than enough for these cards , am I right ?

I usually buy Asus since it served me well in the past and I like the backplate but I am willing to buy something else if this is of concern.

What do you guys think ?

    Thanks

Yeah, it like that by default. It's a nice feature. I'll plug my side panel fan back in to blow air over the gpu and try running it fanless, if the temps stay the 40s in idle I'll leave it like that.

8-pin has a 150 watt max rating and you get 75 watts through the pci express socket so should be enough as an un-overclocked 970 has been shown to have around a 160 watt draw under load.

So eclap all games running ok?

Only slight worries I have re my 970 is...

    1. my mobo is getting on...but am sure should be ok
    2. if I bought a second i'd pretty much have to put them on H20 because of the non reference coolers.

This would then mean perhaps getting another radiator (I dont think a 360 rad would handle 2x970's and a toasty CO 920). Not sure where I'd stick another rad in my hafx).
