And? The game clearly does not utilize the cpu very well.

I think this has nothing to do with the unified memory or the architecture of the new consoles. Of those two games, the other was a cross-gen game that needed to work on last gen consoles too and this game that started as a xbox 360 game and then was hastily shoehorned as a xbox one launch title. These games worked pretty bad on consoles too. I hope the new GTA V versions are made from ground up for the newer hardware or we might have similar problems though.

As i said, it doesnt run well on FX. On intel systems gpu usage is 99%, per that review the 290 is not being maxed out.

Both of my 660s have 99% usage, so no cpu bottleneck there. So its opposite to what you are saying that it does not run well on FX cpus. I just tryed the same settings that ware used in given benchmark and im getting 40-60 fps, CPU usage is around 40-50% This is not in line with what is shown in this benchmark results. two 660 isnt more powerfull than 290x, yet im getting more fps on fx 8350 than 290x and fx 9590.

Initially my game crashed 3 times in the first chapter and each time windows had committed the entire memory space of 12GB (8GB physical plus 4GB paging) even though I still had about 2GB physical memory not in use.

I increased the paging to 8GB, total memory space is now 16GB and about 12GB is committed when the game is running, and have not had a single crash since...am in chapter 5.

I have experienced the screen blinking when changing outfits but that only happens when I ALT+TAB and then return to the game hours later.

The patch has changed nothing for me...I run the game fully maxed out 1080p locked at 30fps consistently, using 360 controller. No unlocked frame rate since I can't maintain 60fps.

Im just pointing out what the reviews say. Any CPU shouldnt be a problem when game is maxed out at 1080P, but lower settings CPU will have a larger effect, as that review shows.
Plus those 660s arent as fast as high end cards. CF/SLI 290/titans would be strained much more so than two midrange cards.

My game only crashed once , i set textures on medium and no single crash after that. Thing i noticed , with textures on high my page-file usage (reported by MSI AB) blows the roof and causes heavy freezes and stutters , but with medium it's around 85% usage and freezing is gone. Game might not like 8GB of sys ram , 16GB should be fine. But also your GPU memory is 4GB and mine is 2GB , that should help as well.

But anyways, bad port with no driver support speaks for itself.

ELI5 how to set pre-rendered frames from 15 to 3 in this game.

wonder if 16gb system ram vs 8gb will help in upcoming next-gen titles..
    WD prefers 16gb too.

In sloppy ports , of course..but even then it won't be perfect. Consoles have 8GB for everything and they have no problems with freezing and stuttering in WD like people with 6GB VRAM on their GPU alone. Its all about how good PC version is coded. Why would we need more than 8GB + 4GBvram for 1080p , its beyond me.

That's almost double of console memory + we use 7200rpm HDDs instead od 5200rpm on consoles and it still isn't enough it seems.

Well more system ram makes also higher texture memory pool and PC usually gets better textures, + there is some ram reserved for OS.

    Ie 580GTX had max 4096mb (+1536mb) regardless of 8gb or 16gb ram, 780GTX can use 8192mb(+3072mb) with 16gb, total ~ 12gb now..

That could explain my "high textures" problem. I don't really know how PC memory really work as well as PageFile. I guess i should upgrade my ram sometime soon , i'm really interested to see how it performs then.
But VRAM could also be the problem as well.

Only problem from little vram is stuttering/hitching due to moving data in and out constantly. 8GB > 16gb will do no difference. The app itself only uses 3-4gb max.

Runs great 99fps, not even maxxing my card out although the core increases when more is on the screen. Lowest i seen fps drop too was 75fps.
Works fine, with these settings my vram hits around 1.5Gb.

No thats the quality not the resolution, if i run the quality higher its kills my vram unless i turn other settings off, im running at 1440p.

That's the render resolution. You are running it at 720p. Even though you have it set at 1440p it's being downscaled to 720p.
