Is 780ti "too much" for 1080p ?

Regardless what you reply with, TJ has already done us a favor, proving that no, a 780ti does not achieve single digits. Moving on.

Still arguing..Eclap cannot understand the title of this thread..He is talking about maxing BF4 out with 200% resolution scaling when this thread is about 1080P..1080P is 1080P, 200% resolution scaling, does it 4K i think ? So, it's OT..Nobody said a single GTX780 Ti is enough for maxed out gameplay, maxed out for me, means 4K plus max AA in the game, so even 3 780 Ti aren't enough.Besides, you can't get constant 60fps in every game, it depends on the game engine.

No offence, just posting my opinion like you all do.

yeah, I don't understand the thread... you see, I understand it, he asked if he can max games out, with all the possible settings and custom AA etc and get 60fps in all games. My reply was "no", in a nutshell. Your's was
So yeah, I'm the one who doesn't understand.

    really???
    No offence bro.

You are posting, individual answers of mine to other people for what ? My statements are clear, for me, a single 780 Ti is more than enough for 1080P gaming, but you won't get a constant 60fps no matter the horsepower you have, because some games have crappy engines.I think it's easy..

Exactly what I've been saying in this thread. Glad we agree.

But then again, it depends on the person..Some people say, i'm happy with 30FPS, others say i want 50+ and others say i want constant 60 and bla bla bla..So there is no point in arguing here i think. But just to clarify the ''real max out'' thing, it's 4K plus max AA in game settings and all other settings on Ultra of course. In case of BF4, it's 4K plus 4xMSAA plus all settings on Ultra plus 200% resolution scaling :)

Constant 60fps in every game = A dream.

Why are you quoting me? My card is MUCH faster than a stock 780Ti.

And the word fine is subjective, Ive never said once that a 780ti will get 60fps minimum in all games.

Which is where the opinions of its enough and its not enough differs.

Just for kicks, I decided to "max out" BF4 with my 2gb cards haha. Even with 200% scaling and 4xmsaa it still held a pretty constant 40ish fps on propaganda with 64 players, it just hitched and stuttered like crazy haha. And of course, any time ANY explosion would happen, it would tank pretty low but still in the teens.

Removing the 4xaa was a bit of a different story however. It had the occasional hitch here and there but for the most part it stayed pretty smooth at 60 fps vsync, that is of course until sh!t starts hitting the fan, then drops to the 30's but it does indeed run it.

NOTHING I would want for 24/7 gaming. But just for fun ;) The sweet spot for me is 135% reso scale with 2xmsaa.

I know that this is probably the wrong thread, but would it be better to run 1080p with no resolution scaling and with 4xmsaa, or rather have the resolution downsampled to a 1080p display, with no or 2xmsaa?

Best IQ and performance wise would come from creating a custom resolution in windows. Res scaling in bf4 looks funky, blurs stuff and foliage looks weird afterwards.

How so? Downsampling the desktop to the 1080p display and just letting the game run "fullscreen", with downsampling already at work?

    indeed 4k with 144hz is 2014 stuff.
anything below that belongs in the past.
wonder what fps you will get with it htough lol

I will not even go 4k until 120hz is available. Id rather go with the extra frames than the extra resolution.

Def not too much...there are numerous games that when put on max settings at 1080p can drop below 60 fps....so no it's not too much...as others have said in some cases it's not enough lol.

I really don't know why there's so much push for 4k to be honest, by comparison 1440p has been put on the side lines by a number of the major monitor companies. How long has it taken for us to see a half decent 1440p 120hz monitor that wasn't a OC'd Korean import? To my mind 1440p is the next logical step in every possible way.

    What's all this shouting?

I'm always on a quest to achieve 60fps in every game on maximum settings since I feel it's essential for a perfect gaming experience. Recently I went to 1440p and 144Hz so my quest got much harder since my new goal is 100fps (or 120 if possible) for the ultrasmooth G-sync experience.

Anyhow, my old monitor was a Dell U2412M (1920x1200 60Hz) and like I said I cranked all settings to max including 4xAA (I felt that 8x or more didnt add anything visually and was too tough on the card).

I know that OP was talking about 1080p but since 1200p is merely some 250k more pixels, the difference shouldn't be that big.

    BF4 : 60fps (Ultra) 95% of the time
AC4 : 60fps (Very high with 2xTXAA) not possible. D3D Overrider helped but the FPS hovered around 50-60
    Batman AA : 60fps OK
    Bioshock : 60fps OK
Tombraider : 60fps not possible in Ultra preset, one or two settings need to be lowered
    Thief : 60fps OK
Watchdogs : 60fps impossible, not sure if its due to the coding or otherwise but even at High textures the fps will go down
Crysis 3 : 60fps impossible, more like 45-60 on Very High

That's all games I could think of right now.

GTX 780 Ti is barely enough when you use things like 4x TXAA with Luma Sharpen or have a 120Hz. It's just like any other card - it will sooner or later become slow for 1080p when games evolve and get more demanding. I can never go back to 60Hz and no backlight , so GTX 780 Ti is barely acceptable for my needs. By the end of 2014, GTX 780 Ti will have 45-60FPS performance @ 1080p Ultra settings and 4x MSAA. Besides, VRAM needs are sky-rocketing where 3GB for 1080p may require to use SMAA instead of MSAA. Look at Watch Dogs, ignore the stutters and bad optimization, but do note VRAM usage @ Ultra settings because it is pushing the 3GB boundary and FPS goes down even on 780 Ti. GTX 870 and 880 will have 4G for the same reason. Even at 1080p and at times even 720p new consoles manage to utilize most of the unified RAM they have allocated to graphics data, which is about 3-4GB.

No its far from being too much from 1080p. I play at 1080p with a single 780ti and it gets stressed on many games. A decent handful will drop it into the 30's, such as witcher 2 with ubersampling, tombraider 2xsmaa, company of heros 2 I was getting 18fps at one point lol. these are a few games I can run off my head right now

Maybe a little cpu bottleneck you have in your system ?
I never played Witcher 2, so is "ubersampling" really necessary? Looks crazy to me as I know it's a gpu heavy game.

Plus as others say, IMO BF4 with anything more than 100% resolution scale is not 1080p anymore. So even if it's technically a game setting, it's an exeption here. And it's not available as a general setting in all games.

When I made the op, i had the impression that 780ti is a monster that'll destroy games at 1080p but it looks it will also struggle in some situations even when you set things realistically.
