This topic encouraged me to revisit 2033.. Graphics didn't age well. Still looks great but compared to LL they definitely show they're age.. Downsampled 3200x1800 sharpens it much better though.
Yeah, turn everything on and get 60FPS at 1080p. Sure. There always is a setting or two that are performance killers for not much in the way of eye candy. Its alright to turn them off, you won't die, the game will still look good, and you can push higher resos / refresh rate which flat out look better than any measly setting that you turn off.
Lightning is still gorgeous at times but I agree with you the game is wildly inconsistent with regards to graphics. Last Light is most definitely a step up from that and I can't wait to see what 4A Games do with the PS4/Xbox One as the denominator. It's pretty clear both 2033 and Last Light even at max PC settings were games designed with 7th gen consoles' limitations in mind.
Had to restart from entering the Depot again, as it ballsed up, when i entered a room where they all were, they were all stuck on their spots, couldn't shoot me or owt, were just shouting, and when i killed them, they just froze solid standing up, so i couldn't get their filters, as when i tried, i got stuck holding them, all i could do was look around
Well just got an Asus VG278HE, 144hz, and this runs even better now, no more locked at 60fps v-sync'd, as don't have v-sync on now, as don't notice any tearing at all on this being a higher refresh, and im hitting all the way up to, and over 100fps, its sublime
Dead Citys great, well spooky, can you not kill that winged get when you climb on the roof via that ladder ?, as i was blagging the get to buggery, and wasted quite a bit of ammo, but he just wouldn't die, kept picking me up and carrying me back, so i just gave up in the end and ran down the stairs. Im now heading into the station where you see the flash of all the people going through
^ finished this recently myself... keep going, you'll like the ending me thinks BTW, do you get full particle effects with your AMD GPU? Smoke, fog, especially around the "rail car" when you get to ride it (forgot the level name but Andrew's there). I used to have Nvidia GPUs and after the switch most of the effects seem to be missing. Not a biggie but still...
If you look at the finer details... 2033 actually looks better then LL. The smoke particles, the lightening... It was just very impressive in 2033 imo and in LL they cut back on it a little to gain performance (while still looking good though).
I see, was suspecting that'd be the case. Installing PhysX software gave some effects back plus it seems it also depends on Catalyst driver version. For some reason there's more effects present with 14.6 beta than 14.4 whql. Still an awesome and awesome looking game regardless of hardware.
Yeah, DoF and VERY HIGH quality are the frame rate killers. However, I was able to have a smooth run with DoF on HIGH quality. The difference in image quality is pretty arbitrary imo between VH and H unless you run in resolutions higher than 1080p (if anyone even can), apart from motion blur and somewhat sharper light shafts and shadows. At least personally I preferred having DoF on over VH. Plus VH was choppy even with DoF disabled. 2033 also seems to benefit from both a strong GPU and a strong CPU. I got a huge frame rate boost when I upgraded from Core 2 Duo to my current build even with my old GPU (GTX560Ti). Stronger GPU was required for having DoF on and keeping things smooth.
