Hi, I noticed I got an update from windows said punlished yesterday for July : my question is which I should install : 14.4 or this new windows update one ? I mainly play bf4 so which one ? cheers
the windows update driver is 13.251 that is catalyst 13.12 old WHQL driver and the catalyst 14.4 is supported to WDDM 1.3
The best for Battlefield 3 etc would be the latest available at the time. In this case, the 9 July beta. These days beta doesn't mean the same thing, at least in terms of display drivers. The beta status just means non-WHQL, a process that requires considerable time and actually costs them money to get. It simply isn't effective for them to get WHQL for every driver release, and this applies to Nvidia as well.
also I checked the driver date is 4/7/2014 !!!!! is fairly new release ... so I should ignore the windows one ... so why they say its July release ? cheers
I had the same MS update message. Reason: My installed driver is 14.3 beta. MS usually publishes a few month later the official WHQL drivers assigned with the MS releasing date. So its the 14.4 WHQL, you get offered.
I was on 14.4 when I got the new message so If have the same drivers installed why windows will ask you updating to newer driver?
ups, so actually I dont know. Perhaps a component is not up to date (HDMI driver?) or a registry entry is wrong?
Thats what I don't understand either Normally I clean with DDU software and will delete everything in safe mode, also I don't use HDMI driver, i untick it while installation, there is something else I noticed that this driver support WDDM1.3 while HD 5000 series only work with WDDM1.2 !!! I believe that 14.7 WHQL final, just has not been updated on AMD website yet !!! Still i am not sure, lets wait for more input from expert guys.
This drivers set from MS resolved black scren issue on my mobility 5000. I recommend them for anybody experienced that issue before. Otherwise, see no problem installing newest drivers if your built in display works. Lets spread the news
Still I think MS driver is newer than 14.7 beta as I installed MS BF4 runs much better, neither 14.4 nor 14.7, was giving me a high FPS, also BF4 wont run with a driver below 14.4 you will get an error msg, so in theory if both 14.4 and 14.7 are not stable for BF4 except the New MS driver, therefore it must be higher than 14.7 but surely not lower than 14.4 otherwise wont run the game. I don't understand why MS got the new update before AMD announced it on their website .....

I did install 13.12 Mobility from AMD, yes I was mistaken with 13.9, so you are correct. the only 2 differences between MS driver and AMD are the * driver packaging version * CCC version one thing to add that with 13.12 I get 63c temp when I play BF4, but is not the same temp with 14.4 or 14.7 they are always hit 70c .... hmmmm ... from your experience do you think 13.12 is the best for HD Mobility 5000 series ? ( not switch-able ) cheers ....
i think 13.12 from windows update may be an updated version for your temp 14.4 and 14.7 gives you high GPU utilization than 13.12 so you may get higher temp but 70c on notebook is not bad specially at the summer also 13.12 is good and stable driver but with the time you will need to update your drivers because a lot of games now required a minimum driver version and also new drivers have new games profiles and optimization so if you are not gaming a lot and have 2013 games 13.12 will be good choice but if you will play 2014 games you will need to update your graphics driver you can wait for the new WHQL driver i hope it comes soon
