Thanks for that find. My new build needed A/V and I was out of BitDefender Total Security licenses

Would be nice if the virus definitions updates wouldn't be so damn resource heavy procedure. It causes lots of HDD trashing and takes way too long than what it should IMO. Other than that and the high memory usage this seems to work quite well.

I'm digging having Avast with code emulation off, thanks to who ever said that. I don't really need heavy protection, digging the 15mb of usage. Not that I need the extra RAM, I just don't like bloatware.

Also got a VPN. Love it.

I ended up installing Panda Cloud. BitDefender doesn't like the Asus AI Suite and refuses to install until AI Suite is removed.

In my opinion Asus ai suite is for noobs. Its nothing but bloatware, all changes are done from the bios and power settings from control panel. I tried ai suite on this rampage black and its still as crap as the old ai suite on ramp 2. Uninstalled it. This is my opinion even though others may not agree:)

RealTemp doesn't work for AMD processors and the installer for CoreTemp is loaded with useless bloat. I'm not a fan of HWMonitor. AI Suite is the only suitable solution for monitoring system temps.

If you click 'more downloads' under the CoreTemp download, it gives a standalone CoreTemp exe with no installer / crapware included

It hasn't been updated since 2013. I doubt it's going to read temps accurately for Kabini.

I have used Comodo, Norton, Avast (free and paid), MSE, but I am now using Bitdefender Free. I like the minimal settings. I got tired of all the extraneous stuff in the other products and I'm sure BD Free is a lot better than MSE/Defender. I just want something that gives solid and silent protection with a minimal amount of interaction required and BD Free seems to do that without giving needless alerts for safe things. It does more than it says since it just blocked a web page on the Vista machine here. I didn't know it had that functionality. It is also the only AV product I have ever used with scheduled or auto scans turned on. It's auto scans are very fast and you don't even know they are happening. The impact on the system seems to be non existent, even on the single core Vista machine. I definitely recommend it if you want no hassles protection.

I will have to say , however, that all the AV products, including Norton which I used for 10 years, have done an excellent job. In my 15 years on line, I have yet to be infected by anything or hacked in any way although there have been attempts that got blocked.

Bitdefender Free and the default Windows Firewall are all I use now. I do have the free version of Malwarebytes though just in case something does manage to get through. Nothing has yet.
