Oh thanks Microsoft. This would be great if I could install the update. But it fails every time. I've tried a few different fixes but it seems like I'm going to have to do a fresh windows install :(

I would assume it means that no more patches will be released for w8, so the patches leading up to, and including 8.1 will still be valid.

lol most likely he turns off updates completely when installing windows, just like i've been doing for years, but now im starting to notice a couple of things im missing out that are relevant, like the fact that im still at IE9 cause there is no way to install the latest without SP1, im planning to change my mind and let it update freely like my wp when i get w8

I have auto updates turned off. I just make a point to check every Tuesday for new updates.

I take it you've only been using computers for a handful of years then? Seeing as you're on w7.

Nope currently on windows 8.1 pro.

    nailed it.
I turn the automatic updates off, simply because I don't want useless junk flooding my hdd and whole computer.

Your take is false, I've been using computers since I was a kid, that means over 20 years, I also forgot to update the personal page, iam currently on win 8.1 pro

Iam going to let that pass...for now. You can apologize to me later.

    Iam awaiting your apology too.

Before you performe a clean install of your windows 8 installation run these commands on an elevated command prompt:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Code:
    Available Switch Options:

/CheckHealth - This switch option only checks to see if a component corruption marker is already present in the registry. It is just a quick way to see if corruption currently exists, and to inform you if there is corruption. It does not fix anything or create a log. This should be finished almost instantaneous.

/ScanHealth - This switch option does not fix any corruption. It only checks for component store corruption and records that corruption to the log file. This is useful for only logging what, if any, corruption exists. This should take around 5-10 minutes to finish.

/RestoreHealth - (recommended) This switch option checks for component store corruption, records the corruption to the log file, and FIXES the image corruption using Windows Update. This should take around 10-15 minutes up to about an hour to finish depending on the level of corruption.

Some people seem confused. Windows 8.0 and 8.1 update 1 will continue to receive updates.

Those on Windows 8.1 (without update 1) will not receive updates and will cease to exist or perish!
