Got this old Processor which did always worked perfectly- ( I took it away for some years put it in the box and stayed for about 4 years) and now I tried to use in a board but the temperature goes to 100 degrees Celsius - what should it be?
    • Processor is too ld?
    • Cooler is not enough?
    • board is too weak for it? the board used to have a Celerom.
Thanks to give me a clue.

Buy some thermal paste, pull off the factory installed heatsink, clean it & the top of the CPU. Apply a small drop of thermal paste (Plenty of guides online for proper application) and reinstall it on the chip.
Should see temps returning to normal.

What are you doing when it reaches that temp? I never got a C2 that hot even while under full stress.

This, and in the process, make sure you mount the heatsink firmly. Aditionally, you can buy a cheap aftermarket heatsink that can cut 20ÂșC off easily.

I'm guessing thermal paste like everyone said. It probably dried out.

As for normal temps, I can't remember what mine were like on the stock heatsink. I think you'd expect to hit about 55-60c at stock.
I'm running mine under a sunbeam core contact freezer and it goes into the high 50's when I stress it with prime95(at 3ghz).

And don't call my processor old :nerd: it's elderly.

Edit: Just a side note, if that is stepping B3, the temperatures might be a touch higher since that was the first stepping. GO (which is what I have) is a little cooler if I remember right. It shouldn't be anywhere near 100c no matter what though.

The B3's always were a bit toasty :D

Theres definitely something amiss with either the cooler or the fan isn't spinning.

Clean thoroughly with some IPA and non-lint rag / paper towel and reapply the thermal paste.

maybe cooler doesn't make proper contact with cpu, that's all.
